Cheating in open competitions (North West area)

Yup, agreed. I watched him come up the 18th and he certainly didn't hit the ball anything like a low single-figures guy. There was lots of murmurings and whispers after his first round with people saying all sorts of rubbish about checking with his home club. Then when he came in with the second round 11 shots worse, everybody just sort of shrugged and congratulated him on a good first round.

I had a similar round to FD playing with Duncan in a Surrey Tour event last year. Shot level off 8 hcp (comp was 3/4 so I was off 6), and won the comp. Plenty of raised eyebrows but in truth, just the best I'd played. Helped out by eagling the stroke one :)

yep - except you did hit the ball like the low handicap player you are now are....(well probably about 2 below you current tbh) :)

To be honest, I believe that one. I think players at that level have the potential to put a good round together, hole a few putts, and threaten par. I myself shot 67 (-2) playing off six earlier in the year.
I had 3 consecutive rounds of -5, -3, -2 playing off 5. Couldnt miss a fairway and a swing thought kept it simple and easy. All bounce games unfortunately but lets me know it's within me/us all at some point.

Playing in an Open 4BBB comp this Sunday - me and my buddy and two mates none of us being members of the club will make up the fourball. What's to stop us just making scores up - nothing. Maybe the club won't let us play as a fourball. You just got to trust folks - difficult though the antics of some fools make that.

Golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules.

Move anywhere from that position and there's no return up the slippery slope

Absolutely - and why I believe that appreciation and acceptance of the importance of the rules are actually very important. So none of this complaining about the apparent pettiness of some of the rules please. They are core to the game.
