Cheaper for members?

Our members changing room is also where the lockers are for the clubs, clothes etc. so in light of recent thefts from golf courses by visitors I have no problem with them being in a separate secure area with swipe card access.

Our bar discount is via the card system so no problem with that either.

I never had a problem with it when I was a visitor at a club and wont going forward, so I am surprised at the objections being posted.

Do you think members should pay less for food/drink/driving range balls/lessons etc than visitors?

I know some clubs have card schemes which give discounts for food and drink etc but what are your thoughts on 2 price lists behind the bar, one for members and one for visitors?
And how does it make visitors feel if, after being told they
have to use the visitors car park and
cant use the members changing room and
are not allowed in the members bar?

Or do such clubs just not want visitors?
If we buy food on our GUI card we get discount on food & drink , if we pay cash we dont , so just put the cash on the card then pay .. just an incentive for members i think . ive no problems with it at my or any other club to be honest

We dont have visitors car park or members bar , i was once on a society outing at a society members club , he invited me into the members bar for a drink , i said nah im ok here but thanks anyway ..

My biggest gripe playing away esp at big clubs i the tees we use , pay a big green fee to play off society tees . no ta

If we use our club card we pay one price at the bar on drinks. If you don't use your club card then a higher price is charged, same for visitors etc. Food isn't discounted even if you use your card.

Chesfield downs range near me gives 20% off to members on range balls. I use the practice area at my course during the summer.

Our club has members' bar cards which give a 10% discount on the menu prices. Therefore no need for two prices and staff don't have to know who is or isn't a member.

My club has a 20% discount on food & drink for members through the use of a card. Same car park & changing rooms. Visitors can use practice facilities, also.

There is no room for hard feeling with the drinks/food prices because if members don't use their card to pay for the food they don't get the discount, and it is automatically applied when they do. There's therefore no reason why visitors should even be aware of the discrepency unless a member is going around talking to people about it. Quite a good system I think - also encourages members to put money onto their cards which probably aids cashflow at the club.

A pre paid card giving members a discount is a good way of operating in terms of bar/food costs. You need to give members incentives, members show commitment to their club and put the cash in up front (or commit to paying by instalments). Discounted cards are a good way of doing this.

Personally it does not bother me where visitors get changed (provided it is not in the car park) but I can see why people could be concerned about strangers having access to members locker rooms. If suitable facilities are available for visitors to use, again this would not bother me if I was visiting another club.

Separate car parking? Yet again it would not bother me as long as I could get my car parked. Why would this bother anyone?

I don't buy into this idea that you are paying to be a member for the day, you are paying for what is on offer. The bottom line is, if you don't like whats on offer at a specific course/club then look elsewhere, plenty others will take your cash and charge you the same as a full member for your steak pie. :)

we get 20% discount on food and drink, but we have to pass our members bar card for swipe to get that so we only have one set of Prices.

Range balls are the same or everyone at 50p for 20 balls. Its the same car park. There is however a very nice visitors locker room with free lockers, showers, Hairdryers and a cloths dryin area.

Same carpark, same lockers rooms, bathrooms and shower rooms. We don't have a driving range but visitors can use the same nets as members. So the only difference is the 10% discount card for food and drink!

I was just thinking about this yesterday. We get money off food and drinks. But in the pro shop it's typical captive market pricing, for example a 500ml bottle of water is £1, a Mars bar is £1, a Twix is......you guessed it £1. So on the way to the course yesterday I stopped by a local Tesco Express and got myself a 1litre bottle of water for 80p. Surely the club pro and club in general should try to look after members a bit better than this? We go there at least once a week and always contribute with the purchase of one item or another.
Ok visitors aren't there every week and they are a captive market to an extent but ripping off loyal customers is not on in my book.

Yes this annoys me as well

A member's discount card for the bar/restaurant is a good idea I think, it encourages regular custom when a lot of golf clubs struggle to maintain business.

As for separate car parks. It's very archaic in my opinion.

I like the idea of discount on range balls but have it separate from the club as lots of people will use the range at a club where they're not a member. But recurring business should be encouraged so I think there should be discount when people buy multiple baskets or even a reward card for loyalty, say if you buy 5 baskets you get one free

In our club's bar, if you use your pre-paid members card then drinks are around 40p per pint less, which isn't bad, but given that I have to drive to the club, I can't really take advantage of it. The changing room is divided into members and non-members sections, and the range is members only, but range balls are free to juniors under the age of 22.

A discount in the Pro-Shop for members would be nice, realistically of around 10-15% to keep competitive with AG and DG, as equipment is above average price, and it looks like they rely on people buying things from them without shopping around first. The fact that I would be getting some sort of discount would definitely motivate me to buy ALL of my gear from the pro, one, because it's keeping the club going, and two, because it's competitively priced. I think it would be a really good move for the club.

Personally, I think the "them and us" mentality is valid in some cases. My friend paid £1000 plus a big joining fee to be a member at a local club, and he couldn't get on the course due the club constantly allowing societies, and there being no "members only" tee times. For that money you need some perks.

Have a discount via your card behind the bar but no discount anywhere else

The car park is for everyone bar the odd reserved spots for Capt etc

The changing room is all one but does have a visitors side

Myself being a non member of any club,I feel everything should be cheaper for members of any golf club.all myself would hope for is a place to park, and a stud bar for a cuppa and sarnie.

I had my wedding reception in my club. Drinks are cheaper if bought with a members card but not by much as the many drunken guests who commented on their surprise at still having money left can attest to. To be fair though the bar is very relaxed and thinks very little if my card is used for several rounds of drink even if the person presenting it changes for every order :D

Best thing was last Christmas at the annual society turkey shoot. I was on whiskey with dash of white. The barman handed me the bottle of white at the start of the night and that was that. Can't remember going home.

To be fair the barmen in Omagh are sound on

Our club gives members discounts on most things.

This is proudly advertised with items clearly labeled in the shop with two prices

To be honest as a member I do think I should get a discount over visitors.

We have
no members only car park
No members only changing rooms
No members only bar
And no members only areas

The only benefit we see as members is discounted food/drink/pro shop spend if you produce your members levy card. This is a subtle way of rewarding members without alienating visitors... IMHO it works well.
