Do you think members should pay less for food/drink/driving range balls/lessons etc than visitors?

I know some clubs have card schemes which give discounts for food and drink etc but what are your thoughts on 2 price lists behind the bar, one for members and one for visitors?
And how does it make visitors feel if, after being told they
have to use the visitors car park and
cant use the members changing room and
are not allowed in the members bar?

Or do such clubs just not want visitors?

my club has a discount card in place for drinks but everything else is the same price! I personally feel having two different car parks and not letting visitors use the same changing rooms is a poor show

My club
One price for all
One car park
One changing area
Visitors are effectively temporary members.

Last club, exact same.

Don't think I've ever been to a course, big or small, unknown and world famous, that discriminates

You could have written that for me! We have members' discount card which is fair enough but any other kind of discrimination is unwelcoming.

Taken from a club's website for example......

Members £1.50 for 40 balls £2.50 for 80 balls
Visitors £2.50 for 40 balls £3.50 for 80 balls

and no, I wont name the club

I don't have a problem with discounted rates for members if it's through a card.

An old club used to charge visitors for range balls; also ok-ish but occasional howler when visitor was playing a match.

Can't see the point, and mildly object, to separate visitor changing rooms and car parks.

Why not? It's advertised to planet earth via t'interweb but you won't 'discuss it' on a golf forum! Grow up!

Well they do say "We would be very interested to receive feedback from both members and visitors regarding the contents of this website" so maybe drop them a mail about the two tier pricing

Poor show if you ask me though

I was just thinking about this yesterday. We get money off food and drinks. But in the pro shop it's typical captive market pricing, for example a 500ml bottle of water is £1, a Mars bar is £1, a Twix is......you guessed it £1. So on the way to the course yesterday I stopped by a local Tesco Express and got myself a 1litre bottle of water for 80p. Surely the club pro and club in general should try to look after members a bit better than this? We go there at least once a week and always contribute with the purchase of one item or another.
Ok visitors aren't there every week and they are a captive market to an extent but ripping off loyal customers is not on in my book.

Well, I wasn't expecting that.
I didnt want to mention the club as I'm sure there are other clubs that have the same policy and I felt it would be unfair to single that one club out.

Growing old is compulsory, growing up isn't.

We have one price on the bar and menu, but we get 10% off if we pay using our membership card.

Never played Elie?

The pro and assistant pro from Prestonfield have just moved to Elie. If it's a "them and us" kinda gaff then I'll probably give it a miss.

The £80 green fees put me off a bit too :D

I've no problem with that at all.
It's the idea of having two price lists that I feel might put visitors off.

I wonder if the range is part of the club or just adjoining and therefore might be a separate business and the two have got together for preferential rates for members of the club

Poor to present it on the website that way as you say it could put visitors off a little

We get discounts on food and drinks (10% I think) but we only have 1 changing room, 1 bar & 1 car park so everything else is equal.

As I'm not a member of any club so therefore always a visitor I do object to members and visitors having separate changing rooms, car parks and bars. As it just emphasises a 'them and us' attitude. But I don't object to members paying less for anything at the course (drinks, range balls etc etc) as in my book they have contributed a fair whack already so they are entitled to get things cheaper then visitors who have not.

I think separate price lists is not the cleverest way of doing it, but members show a discount card that gets them so many percentage off would be the way to go. Although I know in the end it's the same thing.

At the driving range/golf course near me, the driving range is the same price, but the members get 20% extra balls for free. This ties in with them offering a "driving range" membership, for those who aren't part of the club, for £20 per year.

And I think behind the bar it's one price list, but if you show a members card you get XX% discount.

At my current club, it's all equal, everyone pays the same
