I'm looking for 10.5 degree-ish driver to experiment with. I'm hitting my 12.5 quite well, but of course the flight is quite high....so I'd like to see how I get on with a lower loft.

Cheap as chips is what I'm after - but a half-decent make. I'd better stick with a large-ish head size of around 460cc.

I've seen a brand new Wilson (not Staff) that I might go for (for 25 quid). But I'd really appreciate your thoughts on easy to hit drivers I can look out for for on the Bay.

Don't mind a good few years older model, as long as the technology / performance isn't very outdated.

Dunlop NZ9. brand new about £40. Honestly it will surprise you! on a test at the belfry i was hitting it 270 yards+ uphill with decent dispersion!

I will probably be selling my R11 soon, but that will be more than £40!

Other suggestions on friendly cheap used models would be

Ping G range, G5, G10, G15 or the K series
Taylormade Burner

The Cleveland launcher may be a good option, I nearly bought one a while back, you can get then new for £60ish on the bay.

You should be able to get a Cobra L5V or S9-1 for next to nothing. I had an L5V 10.5 as my first proper driver, it was great.

I had an email this morning from one of the online golf stores, maybe onlinegolf.co.uk, selling the Nike Machspeed driver for 59.99, cant go wrong at that price

I had the email, it was from the Sports HQ and at £59 new you will not find many better deals. Dunlop NZ9 at £40 is also a great deal. Some of the older MD Superstrong models can be had for a bargain and are worth a shot as are the Benross models. The Ben Sayers Benny also used to get great reviews and must be available for only a few quid on ebay now.

Thanks all for the replies so far.

So pleased I joined this forum: the quality and speed of replies is great. (Best golf non-purchase I've made for years!!)

There is a G5 for sale in the for sale section that's an absoloute bargain in immaculate condition.

Junior is selling it and he looks after his gear very well.

I got a Nike Machspeed 2 sq head in my bag. Yours for the price of the NZ9 if you interested.

That's really good of you, but I don't think I'm allowed to buy or sell for 60 days on here...and I do respect that. I don't want the ref coming after me!! Thanks for offer though - sounds an absolute bargain.

Ping G10 very good but some going for way too much on the bay. Cobra hs9 again very good. Nike VR (original VR) can be had cheap and very nice and long

I found the 12 degree G10 I had longer than the 10.5! It also had a better ball flight with the slight extra loft so don't discount 11 - 12 degree ones.

I've recently switched to my wife's old TM 09 burner, I'm hitting more fairways and longer than with either my Mizzy 600 FT or 630 FT, I'm in no rush to change it. Probably not too dear on ebay or golfbidder at the moment given that TM have bought out about 20 different models since.

Theres no embargo on you buying stuff mate, as far as I am aware, only selling. Good luck with your search..

G1BB0, you are the Bay Master.....a man after my own heart!!

Have a look out for Callaway 460x or Hyper X.

Excellent (or should that be Xcellent :D) top of the range club from top manufacturer - not that old a model but just didn't strike a chord with the market so some bargains to be had (40-60 quid).

I love mine.
