I’m doing a 3 counties golf challenge to raise funds for a local children’s hospice in June. Similar to the 72 holes thing, teeing off at dawn, playing 18, driving to another course, playing 18, drive to the course I’m a member at and playing until dusk.

It’s a cause that is extremely close to my heart. I’ve never done anything like this before and quite nervous about asking for help in case nobody is interested. A friend is doing the challenge with me, and I’ve also got another friend who is a member at one of the other courses that is looking to play a few holes with us there.

In terms of the fundraising element, it would just be people donating/sponsoring us online.

I guess the question I’m asking is what do golf clubs typically offer to support these type of things? Is it too cheeky to ask to play for free so that we can donate the green fee to the charity? What else could we ask the to help with?

Any ideas appreciated.

It's definitely not cheeky to ask to play for free. Don't be afraid to ask, most people want to support charities if they are able to. Make sure you tell them you'll be plastering the club's name all over social media so everyone knows that they're supporting you and the cause. I have done a couple of 24 hour snooker marathons and the clubs were happy to provide free tables each time - I'm sure most golf clubs would be the same regarding a tee time.

Online is important (& you prob wrote it just for speed) but in reality it won’t be plastered for everyone to know about.
Unless someone has 5/6 figure followers to piggyback onto it’ll more likely be seen by a few dozen ppl, so it really needs to be targeted properly to maximise the limited exposure

OP, Good luck with it

Set up your fundraising page and get yourself on FBook (if not already on it) and “follow” join all the local Clubs and the Hospice pages and then publicise your link for donations.

The Hospice can also help with publicity.

Also let the Clubs know you’ll be doing articles for local media outlets on the event and would it be ok to take photos on the day of you on the course etc.
