Ambitions went out the window when I got married 20yrs ago lol. Only joking.

At 43 yrs old I just want to enjoy golf, but the worst thing about golf is we're never really happy. Even if we win a comp by 6 shots we're still saying I missed a few putts and could off been more.

My biggest problem IMO is I tend to dip into the ball left shoulder goes down bigtime. I watch so called better swingers and their left side on take-away is nice and straight, where as I feel my left side is curved. I also find myself getting in front of the ball and then having to try and get back. I'm getting toooo technical now. My head hurts.

here's a different take on it...

You're obviously a very good golfer with a swing you're obviously not happy with (or you wouldn't have asked the question??)

Just think.... what if you get your swing corrected into a text-book one - you could be a scratch or better golfer.........

You'll never know unless you try :)

Will you look back in 30 years and think what could have been if you had only changed your swing????????

Stick with what you've got - especially from a technical point of view.

your not missing greens with wedges because of a poor technique or understanding of your swing. They are mental errors really arent they, lack of concentration?

I wouldnt have thought major changes are needed, hell of a lot of work too going down that road for a veyr small margin of improvement. Depends how important that is i suppose?

Ok Lads, I've been trying to change, but no matter what I do at the top of my back swing is still the same. I've had a lesson and nearlly got it right. I went to the range and tryed swinging straight back and it felt awefull. I've played 18 holes everyday now for the last week and still noting. It's got to the stage now where I dont know what I'm doing. So yesterday while playing I disided to grip it and rip it over the last 3 holes. Yep you guest it, 2 under for the last 2. So all I got to do now is get all that stuff out of my head about trying to swing correctly. If I can get it round to my handicap with what I've got that will do for me.
Thanks for all the help.

With the club where you have it you need decent rotation or very quick hands...

...either way you are going to be inconsistent some days if everything is not perfect.

The reason for that is with a shut clubface there is less time through the hitting zone where the club actually points in the correct direction.

Obviously Zack Johnson won the Masters so it's not exactly a crippling problem but if you are not warmed up properly or even feeling a bit tired it can really effect your play.

This of course explains why your 'grip it and rip it' philosophy makes you hit it better... because you have to!
If you ease off with your clubface in that position it's going tits up :)

What are your irons like? Got a vid?
