It was interesting that not one course seems to tower above the rest in the previous St Andrews thread. Please select your favourite track excluding the Old Course.

I’ve left out the other two as it seems they would be less likely to be chosen.

Prefer the New, but Castle is great as it is completely different

Castle wasn't there when I was up there so I was picking from the other three. Probably New, Eden, Jubilee for me but that's possibly because of my skill level and always finding the Jubilee a bit of a slog.

I'm another New course fanboy, but that in no way is meaning to criticize the others.
I would be very happy playing any of them. Castle will probably punish you most if you're not on your game and Eden least.

It’s tricky, I’m not sure I can answer.

I love playing the Castle but would never dream of playing in a medal on it.
I love the New as it’s challenging but still quite forgiving to play in a medal.
I love the Jubilee because it’s where I scored my lowest ever medal round.

They’re all different, the Castle probably has the best set of holes but I prefer the convenience of the New.

Jubilee is easier now they’ve ripped out a lot of gorse but in doing so I think it’s lost some of its bite. It’s also let down by the worst finishing holes of all three. But, there’s still something really attractive about it.

Yep, impossible to choose.

Edit: forgot the Eden! Basically I don’t like it. The first hole is superb but after that it gets worse, the crossover is stupid, the pond is stupid, the OOB is stupid. 18th is nice but the card’s wrecked by then so that’s stupid too.

I've only played the Castle once, when the har was well and truly in. 100 yards visibility tops for 8 holes, 150 yards for 8 holes and 200 yards in time to see the 17th green!
So, I have to say the New course, as not played the Jubilee and didn't rate the Eden that much either. Plus the New cost me £27 with last year's Captain of the R&A hosting me! 😉

Voted Castle course only really because of the difference and some thoroughly enjoyable days there. Had some great scores, had some horrific ones.

New and Jubilee are equally brilliant but I have to say Eden wasn't as memorable or enjoyable.

Can anybody give me some tips for the Castle Course. Hopefully someone that knows the course well.

Our trip is nearing and our biggest day will be played on this track. We have done the draw for our Ryder cup and I’ve been matched against our groups best player.

I am looking to get some advice from the forum just to get a head start over the rest of the field, especially my opponant.

As things stand I will get 10 shots on him. Not sure what holes are what but hoping the kind and informative folk on here can steer me towards victory 😉

Thanks

It's a tough track. Only played it once, in pouring rain and a strong wind. It was my least favourite course, mainly because the fairways were tight and the rough was penal. Keep it straight off the tee would be my advice.

Yeah, play left on the 17th :D.

Castle is tough. Hope you have your putting boots as the greens are wild.

The New always was said to be the best. I voted Jubilee. The New beat me up badly on my only time on it but the Jubilee has a bit more room if you’re having an off day.

There is a lot more room than you think off the tee on most holes, picking your lines is incredibly important as stray too far off the beaten track and you’re in lots of trouble!
Don’t try and hit every green if you can’t it’s a hard course and bogey is a good score.
Enjoy 17 it’s a magnificent golf hole.

The Castle is a fantastic track and reminds me a lot of Kingsbarns. This is my vote.
The New is awesome though and has some belting holes. 9th is a beast
The Jubilee is soooo good! I think that the 15th is the best hole on the whole Links.

I prefer the New, followed by the Jubilee.

Castle looks lovely, some cracking holes but not a fan of the slopes on the greens. You can hit a decent shot to the green, hit a slope and not just run off the green, but end up in thick rough. The welcome there is the best though, and a lovely clubhouse.

Playing all three courses again in October. (y)
