Hey guys,
Being 15 it is time to start thinking about possible careers! As golf is my complete passion and all that i think about i was interested to see what careers are out there.
Maybe working for Mizuno or other brands. I was interested in how you would get into these kind of job!
Thank you for any advice! :D

Sorry to burst the bubble but i doubt golf companies are going to give a job to someone with such a high handicap. Depends what you want to do though, answers phone for Mizuno then possibly but they are more likely going to get someone who has a very low handicap for jobs like custom fitters etc.

I think, from your other recent posts, you should just concentrate on getting your H/C down

@pete93...
i am currently playing to 20 after one year! i will be lower soon! I WILL BE! :)
i am thinking for in about 2 years time.... alot of time to lower my handicap... I am askin now to think about any qualifications i may need!

Are you talking about turning pro?
NOOO! i will never be good enough... i dont think so anyway! just any career that will include my passion... working on tour or for a big brand! I am naive to this kind of thing,.... i dont know how it all works

Good luck to you. It's good to see somebody at 15 having an idea of what they want to do.
It was very interesting visiting the Ping tour truck at Walton Heath a few weeks ago, and I would guess that a job like that is very interesting and rewarding, especially if one of "your guys" wins a big tournament.
Don't know what qualifications you need, but you have a good start by being mad keen on golf. Why not contact somebody like Ping or Mizuno to find out what sort of grounding you need?
I'm sure they would appreciate your commitment in approaching them.
Good luck with your handicap by the way. Faldo didn't pick a golf club up until he was 14 and he turned out to be our most successful golfer.
;)

@Smiffy
This is exactly what i would love to do!!
working in a tour van would be soo amazing and would just be soo fun!
I may get in contact and try find out some details in the next few months or maybe talk to my pro

I would write to every golf company/agency etc you can find and say you'd love to get some work experience, unpaid. You could do that in your holidays.

Get your foot in the door somewhere. It's not what you know but who you know. You need to meet people and network.

Qualification - Any kind of business studies course would be useful to work in golf, which is after all a business as well as a hobby for many.

There is a golf club management degree or HNC at UHI which is based in Dornoch I think - not a bad spot to play some golf too!

I am taking business studies at school! and... am 75%certain i am doing my work experience at the golf course! :) I am waiting to hear back... i have been told i have good chances though

My advice is to really study hard get some decent qualifications,in the meantime start reading books about clubs etc and manufactures and then approach them and really sell yourself,be enthusiastic and show them its what you really want to do they may even offer an apprentiship.good luck.

I think that this is complete &*%$..
The op talked about careers in golf...Not wanting to become a pro....
Maybe he's just a late starter...Plenty of Pro's didnt take the game up until there late teens....
Also there are many careers in golf outside of the above that you mention....And im sure that playing off of scratch or plus figures for that matter isnt a requirement of getting a position.

Golfer. Im a firm believer that with enough desire and passion that anybody can achieve there dreams....If your the type of person that sets goals and achieves them then your half way there....Never let anyone tell you that it cant be done...There normally the people that no nothing of the subject....
After all your only 15 and now is the right time to be thinking about your future...You'll be finishing school soon and maybe going to collage...
But whatever path you take the best of luck with it...
Never give up always give it 100%
Then nobody can accuse you of not wanting it enough....

Well done for considering these things now Golfer. Interesting to see your studying Business Studies already, I'd look to follow that through college, or 6th form at A level.

I studied Leisure Management at University, its a business based degreee focussing on the sport industry (such as Govderning Bodies, coaching, fitness, the organisation and management of sport) and the leisure sector (airlines, shopping, recreational activities). Was a good basis for working inside sport, without being an elite sports person yourself.

Im now a teacher, so not working in sport, but that course is ideal without specialising so much that it restricts what you can ultimately do, if you ever did change your mind.

All the best

As Smiffy said the guys on the Ping Tour Van seemed like a tight knit fun bunch of guys. They knew their stuff and showed a clear and obvious passion in what they were doing.

Driving round Europe will be a tough task and not much down time with driving, making up clubs, alterations to lofts, lies, grip thickness etc etc.

It will also seriously hamper your own golf. Was it James? The truck driver who told me that he could go 4 months at a time without hitting a golf ball despite having the best of the best golf equipment at his finger tips, at the best courses Europe has to offer and huge practice areas. He was so busy looking after the Tour Pro's that he couldn't even have a hit or a putt.

Good luck with your dream.

Couldnt agree more. Good luck on your journey. I sure there are plenty of guys on here who would love to be starting out again career wise. Im changing mine now and wish Id done it years ago.

I also agree that you should contact all golf companies asking for advice. At your age Im sure they will be more than happy to try and help.

I also done leisure management degree and enjoyed the course alot just sorry I never played golf then. I would have spent less time in the pub.

Good luck again

Nice encouraging post Pete. :(

There are jobs in golf for people who don't even play golf.
