Car Hire Lanzarote

Evening all

I’ve been very fortunate to get a week In Lanzarote booked in and even More fortunate that our lass has fully approved me taking my clubs with me!

Looking for a hire car so grateful of any advice. I’ve hired before in Portugal and found The whole experience a nightmare of hidden charges etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you

You can try the comparison sites, but we now always use Cicar and book direct with them through their website. They're based in the Canaries and operate throughout the islands. We have used them on La Gomera, Tenerife, and El Hierro. Always competitively priced, but cars are always good and customer service is great - and no hidden charges (and never any pressure to buy additional insurance etc which I find to be a bug-bear with some other companies).

Ps. Like others, I'd recommend having your own annual policy for 'car hire excess charges cover". About £40 for a year so generally cheaper than buying it off the hire company for the week's hire. . Many hire companies will try to tell you your own 'excess insurance' isn't valid/isn't good enough etc and still try to sell you theirs. Cicar are one of the few companies I know who take it at face value - if you say you've got it, they just say Ok, fine, and move on.

Pps. Holiday Autos are a booking agency - but your car will still be from the on site hire companies, so you might still get "the hard sell" where you get there. (Goldcar - absolute b' stewards for this). Holiday Autos give good prices though, and we generally use them if we go anywhere other than the Canary Islands

I use Autoreisen. Used them for all Lanza hols and have booked with them in Aug this year and Feb next year. Booked on-line. They are usually there or thereabouts the cheapest, but you must book well in advance to secure a car. Leave it to the last minute, you run the real risk of not getting one, due to the demand and lack of supply *currently* across all hire companies. Status is changing montly and with more travel to Lanzarote opening up post pandemic, you may have more car availability though.

For Autoreisen, you book a category of car and the car you get can be either a near new or a marked older, depending on availability. For ferrying golf clubs around, that shouldn't matter if you get a banger!

Cabrera Medina or Cicar are the usually other options for regular goers, but I haven't used them before, so can't vouch either way.

Ave just been to the reception desk and asked. Currently staying in Playa Blanca. Bottom Line they don’t know. They use a third party company and there shut at the moment. last October I stayed in Costa Teguise and drove past the course a few times. Called in once re asking for price and it’s a good bit cheaper in the afternoon. Prices were cheaper at the course than ringing through the hotel. I hired a car in the resort and was easy to do but I went to a couple of places before I picked a mini soft top.
As rule fan has stated do not use Gold car. They are robbing illegitimates.
If picking a car up from the airport, the car hire stalls are straight in front of you as soon as you come Out of arrivals. Been to Lanzarote twice and love the island. Timamfaya is a must, drive down to Yaiza and through the lava fields. If you love sea food head to Il Golfo.
Get well Soon Near Hull, your not missing owt. It’s bloody raining. ???

That’s very kind cheers Tashy

I must admit I’m leaving toward taxis.

Would cover my green fees and ensure I can be perpetually drunk for 7 days ?

Again. Spot on pal. Really helpful

On hire car insurance. Be aware that the hire company’s own insurance may well work better for you and be more convenient in the event of needing to make a claim than any insurance through a 3rd party.
