Can women compete on the men's Pro Tour?

Yes they have played in some tournaments in the past,i think as special invites, they cant play regulary.I think by memory only 1 made a cut,but they just cant compete due to length.

Is this going to turn into another "Length is everything" thread because women can't compete....? :-)

You've still not answered my questions, starting to take it personally!! :-)

but they just cant compete due to length.

That implies that, all else being equal, the better golfer is the one who has more length?

MAGNIFIQUE. You got there before me.

That same drum is taking one hell of a beating! :)

In all seriousness though all else isn't equal as you're comparing women to men. As a football coach I'd have thought you would understand the difference there?

Tim,
You swing like a girl and hit it a country mile. So I suppose the girls on tour can should be able to as well, if they start doing your daily routine, of course.

Im not going to get into a debate about length, but there are factors that are due to length. If a women hits her tee shot 240 and a man hits 290 he will be hitting his next shot with a short iron she will be hitting hers with a long iron, and we all know the difference that makes. Also what about being in the rough then it becomes a matter of strength, and of course thats another debate.

From what I have seen watching womens golf v. mens golf, no, their short games are not as good, they don't putt as well, and they just aren't powerful enough.

Even Wie, who bombs it Timgolfy distances can't compete. She just isn't good enough.

There is way more to it than distance.

They are also too slow, but that is a different question.

I just meant that, physically, you are not comparing like with like.

Why don't the women run 100m against the men?

Why don't women footballers play in the Premier League.

It's a nonsense of a comparison in my eyes.

Oh, and as a disclaimer I mean no disrespect to women golfers or sportswomen in any way. They are just not comparable.

In all honesty timgolfy, I admire your pursuit to get to scratch and it is your prerogative how you do it. I just think that using your approach in tandem with some of the other approaches on short game etc would serve you well. However, you seem blinkered to everything else bar smashing the ball as far as you can.

I've never said that I don't practice my short game and putting. I've never said that the short game is unimportant. I've never said that the short game is less important than the long game. Too many forumites have been putting words into my mouth (so to speak). I've only ever said I wanted to hit the ball long like the pros do.

Ho hum.

The problem is Tim, that's all you've ever said.
259 posts argueing with every respected and vastly experienced golfer on here who have tried to give you advice on how to improve your game.
Even when you get shirty, still people with 30-40 years knowledge try and help you.
And in return, you just tell us you're right and we are all wrong.
I even gave you some advice and asked you a question or 2 and you've totally ignored me.

Hit it 330 yards if you want, just change the flippin record or you're going to find yourself on a lot more people's ignore list.

This is in essence what I was trying to get across. Thanks for putting it more succinctly than me bobmac!

Ho hum.

"Hitting it longer is the fastest way to scratch"

"All else being equal the longer hitter is the better golfer"

"People realise they are using inadequate approaches and will never reach single figures"

Didn't go through the posts but that's pretty much been your consistent message tim. Can't be surprised about my opinion of your approach given the way you go about it surely?

I'm not trying to put words into your mouth but seeing as you never answer serious questions that I've been asking you all I can do is infer from your posts.

Its mainly their putting that is way worse than the mens, not their ball striking. They are obviously significantly shorter off the tee but they make up for that with their consistency. Most of those girls have swings that are just so insanely repeatable and techniquely sound that their accuracy with their ball striking is comparable, if not better than the mens (also hitting it shorter helps with this obviously)

Kinda like Brian Gay and Luke Donald do (without the world class short games...)

I remember when Annika played that mens event and missed the cut by one or two shots she came dead last in the field in putting by miles, but her Greens in Regulation stats were in the top ten or something.

IMO no woman at the moment would have any chance of retaining a tour card on the PGA tour (Michelle Wie might make a couple of cuts in a season but...) however I reckon one day it might happen... she will be a freak of nature though, whoever it is...
