Callaway xr irons

Hugely long, hugely forgiving, easy to get in the air.
Callaway's version of the Super Game Improvement iron.

i have them and this is true. Lofts are low. 5 iron 23' and xhot 4 hybrid is 22'

tbh they are good. You get consistent distance and they fly straight. Most of the time. This for me was massive progress

I have the steelhead Xr version and am very very happy - actually prefer them to the apex cf16

As others have said though get yourself fitted and don't buy off the shelf

Played them and found them to be excellent, long, forgiving and easy to use. A joy to hit. Only reason I didn't plumb for them as was I preferred the look of a different set of irons at address.

I had the xr pro. they do go miles although felt a bit dead. now have ap2s which I am hitting 1 to 2 clubs more than the xr .

I have the XR which I would call game improvement irons (I think the XR Oversize are really the Super Game Improvement Irons).
I got fitted for them a year ago and very happy with them.
They are long and pretty forgiving. Bear in mind that the loft is one iron stronger than on my previous Mizuno MX-900's which helps get the extra distance, but all new clubs seem to do that.
I just got the 5-PW iron as the loft on the 5 iron is 23° which is only 3° more than my 5 wood. However as a result the PW has a 44° loft which means you may need to consider what loft of wedges you get to go with them.

I have two sets of clubs; one Ping and the other Callaway. I recently put together the Callaway set and chose XR irons. I have played with them a couple of times, but I don't hit them as well as the G20 irons in my Ping set. Like most of the Callaway irons I have seen, they have a thicker top line appearance at address and this is offputting for me ... it may seem a bit OCD, but I find that the look of a club at address is important to me. So the jury is out, but everyone seems to find them easy to hit and long, so I must overcome my visual foibles and get going with them.
