Can anyone tell me how to burn a film from a laptop to a dvd (re-recordable) so that it can be used on a DVD player? I've looked everywhere on the web and cannot get a proper answer, as usual.

My problem is that I have to format the dvd for the dvd player but then I can't burn stuff to it on the laptop ?
I never formatted a DVD, only a hard drive or the like.
Have you actually checked your DVD player and whatever you want to burn it with are compatible with the type of DVD you have?

most DVD players and TV's now have a USB port, can you not stick the film onto a USB drive as a file? most will play most formats!

Looks as though I have to convert before burning. Done that bit. I'll check the rest tomorrow.

I think it would be easier just to buy me mum a new TV with a USB port.

I use an old mobile external DVD-RW drive recorder, from Amazon £16.99 and a programme called Burnaware.
Just drag and drop the files over and copy, no need to format, just select the DVD option and start recording.
