Bunker Critique ??

Be gentle with me I've never laid myself open to the 'Experts' before.


My bunker play is poor, on a parkland course I'm happy to get it out & 2 putt, which can be costly playing off 9.

At Royal Portcawl recently Region 3 very kindly took a video of me in a huge links bunker.

You can tell by the foot prints that it took me 2 to get out. (it took me about 5, a ball pick up & a step ladder to get out of another)

My first impression is that I could do with a Wayne Rooney hair weave. Apart from that ...

Im going to put my neck on the block first.
As the face is so steep,i would have opened my stance up,you seemed square.
Then i would have had the ball on my front foot.
I would also have kept my weight a little on the right foot,it looks like you were leaning into the ball.
However you did get it out,and two putts later you were in the hole.

Thanks for your reply.

I think maybe the problem is that I'm swinging really flat. (I do as a rule) If I open up my stance I have been known to Sk##k a bunker shot !

cheers for the input guys. I quite like the look of Gary Smith and his linear approach, The other fella, didn't recognise him, I'm not sure he will do much in the game !

This is the exact method I have used for some time now and it works so well. The only other point I would mention is to keep the hands moving right through impact to a high finish. Jabbing into the sand is a big no no.
