Our club used to allocate times each Tuesday and Thursday 9 am to 9.30 am but now the council trust that runs our course say they cannot see why some people should have preference to others re booking times.
Inevitably it comes down to fastest finger first and we usually end up with staggered times and not following each other therefore taking away the social golf aspect of our senior section.
Has anyone experienced the same as us and whats the answer?

Ever since Covid regs came in we have fastest finger first and no dedicated tee times for the Seniors section. It has not really made that much difference to most of our seniors and they still have fast fingers.

One of the advantages is that Seniors comps now last all day so everybody who wants to play in the comp gets in whereas we used to have a reserve list for those not able to book in during the club allocated period.

Our allocated time used to be 7.30 -11.45 and we still could not fit in all those who wanted to play in it.

We set up the BRS and put the block bookings on first, so no issues.

Obviously if an outside agency has control it’s down to convincing them that giving the seniors those times guaranteed income etc.

Long term, Seniors Section will still be there once pandemic over, if you lose them now they may not return.

I would add that one of the things that now prevails throughout management and committee thinking is that all members pay the same fees so every other member in the same category and should have the same opportunity to book a tee time of their choice.

Remembering that social golf in groups is not only about senior groups. By and large it works well as the same groups of players getting to play together most days of the week at roughly the same time as have they always done. There is a sort of unwritten agreement about which groups go when and each group tends to stay away from the other groups normal bookings times, with adequate spare times for new and other members to get in.

The old boys at one of our clubs had a similar non-issue (in the end) not so much for senior comp but for their fiddles with the daily brs bookings. They've been running it for so long though it's well established that members just didn't book out those slots and green fees can't play until mid-afternoon onwards due to the increased amount of members being able to play through the week so no issues there either.

In fairness however they're an approachable bunch and they're happy to let you join as long as you play off about 1/8th of your handicap unless your off 5 or less then they want you giving shots

Our golf club blocked times for the usual sweeps that normally play at them times, not just the seniors.
