Broken English/African Tone

To be fair (as a Palace fan) he was a very good footballer and "stealing a living" is unfair and quite offensive
Think he was referring to the fact he's now paid to talk about football on TV despite having an extremely poor grasp on the English language. Not a slant on him as a player.
Exactly as Orikoru posts. He is incoherent, I've lost count of the number of times he comes out with 'I don't understand the rules anymore' whenever a contentious decision occurs. It's your job to understand them, go on a refs course. He is just about the worst pundit out there right now but BBC radio and Sky keep employing him.

I wasn't suggesting it was about his football ability. I don't much care for how he speaks but "stealing a living" is unfair

It's a variation on many examples!

Jamie Oliver, "de-poshing" his accent to be more "trendy" or Hyacinth Bucket's telephone voice. I see the Danny Dyer example just arrived. Great example.

Some might be more contrived than others, who knows...and to be honest, what harm does it do! Language evolves, have you ever read Chaucer?? :-)

Ever so slightly harsh maybe but absolutely bang on the money.
Worst sports pundit on tv by a country mile, and that’s saying something given we have Michael Owen talking ballcocks on BT Sport ?

Why is it? There are literally hundreds if not thousands of ex-players they could call upon who can actually string sentences together. I have no idea how he got the gig.

I cant stand Jamie Carragher for his unintelligible accent, but clearly other dont mind it but I'd not describe it, or him, as stealing a living. Clinton has always spoken like he does on TV , Sky must see something about him that maybe you don't

for me its not how he talks its the fact he doesnt have a clue whats hes talking about

its the age old debate of how a women pundit who knows a lot doesnt get a look in but any old bloke gets the job based on his career but doesnt have a clue about being a good pundit.

An inability to speak coherently is not on a par with simply having a regional accent. :ROFLMAO:

I'm so grateful I don't have BT. The odd occasion I am somewhere and hear them the level, the sheer awfulness of the BT pundits is scary. Owen, without doubt, tops them all

Clinton Morrison is Irish, surely you can tell. He's also a Tottenham fan.
On a slight thread drift, i had a group of junior school kids on the coach yesterday, after the usual chorus of wheels on the bus the next song they launched into was the 'Tottenham get battered everywhere they go' one. Nearly had to pull over i was laughing so much ??

In Carragher's case, it's the speed that's the problem for me. My ability to convert what he says to something I can 'digest' is just not up to it!
Mind you, the thing that astonished/ammused me most was his fellow Presenter's trousers - the cuffs of which were nearly halfway up his calfs!
