... and did it in the club championship to boot! Gross 88 net 62, leading the net competition (our club is doing the championship as both scratch and net this year). Apologies everyone, I know I'm just blowing my own trumpet here but I'm still bouncing off the walls 6 hours later. To say that I am chuffed to bits is rather an understatement, been playing a couple of years and it took me over a year to move off 28, to have it finally come together like that on a big day is stuff of fantasy.

Now all I have to do is play the same in tomorrow's second round, should be interesting as that score has got me paired with guys who are off 14 and 15. Also got a 4.5 cut showing on HDID, 4.0 for 10 strokes under CSS and it seems they've thrown me an extra .5 as a prize! You'd have thought it would just be a sombrero, wouldn't you?

net 62, so i guess you could have a decent lead going into tomorrows round. OK you have 5 shots less, but just relax and stay focused and there is no reason you can't post a good score again

Oh well. The lead quickly evaporated as 1) nerves got to me and 2) even when I'd calmed myself down, I had a distinctly average day accompanied by a terrible blow-up hole. Amazing the difference that it makes being in contention, been a loooong time since I've experienced pressure like that in sport. Didn't deal with it too well obviously but one to learn from.

Still, I tied for 4th though overall in the net comp, and I tell you what, if on Friday night you had offered this to me I'd have bitten your hand off. I didn't win, but I made the cut, had my best ever round with a card in hand, had a fantastic (dry!) weekend of golf, and I've hit my summer handicap target in the space of 8 days. Last Saturday when I entered the monthly medal I was off 27, now I'm off 21. Revised target 18, sombrero firmly binned!

The more you get into contention the more you can learn to deal with the nerves at the start and the feeling in your stomach when you are in contention. Its a learning curve that you only get by being in it to win it. Fourth place is not to be sniffed at. Huge cut, personal bet and a good finish. Not a bad weekend

Sounds just a little dodgy. If they wanted to throw in a General Play cut in addition to to your 10 x 0.4, it has to be a minimum of 1.0 which means you should have been chopped 5.0. That's a massive chop - well done.

I thought that as well, but decided that pointing out it's supposed to be full strokes was a bad idea! 1.0 v 0.5 wouldn't actually change the new playing handicap but I think I'm going to struggle for a few weeks anyway, I'm not about to do anything that might take it even lower.
