Can't believe we are in for another cold spell. However, looking forward, some of those amateur weather guys are predicting that this summer will be like 1976. Some of you might not remember this, or may not have been born, but it was basically bloody hot for about 3 months solid. If you look at some cricket archives on YouTube you will see what I mean - the grass was brown.
Remember 76 as if it was yesterday you never had to watch the weather forcast you knew it was going to be hot.I nearly drowned down tunnels beaches that year bloody frightening.
Pishing down with sleet in Edinburgh, huge puddles everywhere so I assume that the course will be closed. My grand plan to play every day over the Easter weekend is foiled even before it starts.
Mmmm, '76.
'twas the year I moved to sunny scotland (not that I remember much, being only 3!)
This weather is seriously making me consider emmigration
I believe Libya is nice this time of year
In 1976 was in Devenport and remember stand pipes and only 5" of water in the bath.
Back to Scotland for leave and all the water even the greens were watered on the golf course.
played sat and sun weekend. sunday in shirtsleeves and sunshine, today is damp and misty (NO snow yet). Hope it keeps away for the weekend.
If you insist, and I mean really insist, I'll come along to be your caddy and coach.
My needs are small.......
Flights, accomodation, food, drink, and a few bob to spend in the shops
I used to work behind Wimbledon Common golf club and our company decided to move during the first week of the Tennis Championship (great timing). We were moving to Croydon and it was soooo hot that just walking from one room to another was tiring. I used to work for a key cutting company and where we moved to the storage racks weren't ready so we left all the keys (about 400,000) outside open to the elements. They must have been out there for about 2 months.
I can remember our company bying us loads of beer during the day whilst we re-built the storage racks and the desks, they were metal back then. Not the nice wooden ones that are the norm today.
I also remember a thing about standpipes as the water was running out fast but i cant remember evergoing to one. You must remember that air conditioning was a thing you only saw in the cinema with films from the US. If you wanted air conditioning in your car you opened up ALL your windows.
Its funny I remember 1976 better than 2006 (Homer) I know 2006 was hotter at times but I dont think it lasted half as long as 1976, then again the old grey cells are not as bright as they once were.
