British comedy awards

If you watch the British comedy awards and are then offended by the swearing then you either look to be professionally offended so you can write to the Daily Mail in disgust, or you haven't done your research.

I didn't watch it as I knew what it would be like. My concern is the use of the 'c' word, not just in the BCA but the fact that it has appeared in a couple of recent TV dramas. It's bad enough listening to the 'f' word all day but I cannot believe that the 'c' word is about to become as commonly used. Yes, my son calls me an old git too!!

Swearing can be big and clever, Malcolm Tucker is a genius character. Language evolves and swear words lose their power to shock over time, and I expect it will be the same with the c word. But I expect it will be a long time before it appears before the watershed.

right, off to talk proper stuff now like golf:rolleyes::thup::p

thers a very popular comidan over here called Brendan O Carroll (Mrs Browns Boys) .. the man is so funny he would make you sick laughing at times ,

but on some of his live shows he could sometimes use foul language in overkill , and i didnt find that funny at all , if he was on any of the early chat shows he would be so so funny without being crude , so its a pity he feels the need for the foul stuff other times ..

Now i work in a garage & have worked on club & pub doors for a good few years , im not easily shocked or offended , but the use of foul language or words just for the sake of it is uncalled for .. just my opinion tho

Eddie Murphys dvd RAW is a prime example , watched 15 mins of it and turned it off

I get it fine CMAC, i just don't understand it.
I posted a link to a quote by Stephen Fry, because i couldn't find a link to an interview he did. Sums up my attitude to swearing perfectly.
In reallity i believe people are only offended by "bad" language, because they believe they should be. They 're words, not weapons.
If in your oppinion its possible to go too far thats fine, but foul language only maintains a shock value, as long as people insist on being shocked, and thats my oppinion.
I used to know quite well a certain well known northern club comic. If you asked the PC brigade, this man was a dispicable racist, mysogynistic pig. Yet in reallity he did more for charity than most. The beneficiaries of these charities were often the butt of many of his jokes, yet every week you would see them sat on the front tables in his club having a wail of a time. IMHO they were the ones who truly "got it".
