Breaking in new shoes

every ones feet are different, and so diff makes suite different feet.

i always but stuff that fits and will still fit a few months later. my last ecco's took months to wear in, which i did while working from home. wore them for half hour a day for 6 months. they are now so comfy i don;t know they are on.

where as my last FJ fit straight out the box, however a couple of months later they had stretched and killed my toes due to my feet slipping forward.. cheap leather i suspect

Ecco are the only shoe I have ever had a problem with, they felt great when I tried them but I had blisters the size of dinner plates by the end of the round. My local cobbler stretched them for me and they are fine now, however have learnt my lesson and I won't stray from FJ's again.
 
Think style also has an impact. Always wore Dryjoys Tour but bought some FJ Icons from our pro which nearly killed me. Even though the sizes were identical the fit was really narrow for me. Reverted to the Dryjoys Tour and everything was fine.
 
I've had FJ that fit like a glove and FJ that have rubbed me raw. I am wearing a new pair of Puma's now that fit beautifully on one foot and rub the heel and little toe on another. The joy of different sized and shape feet. I try wearing them around the house for a bit but unfortunately you can not replicate walking a course with its various undulations. You just have to wear them, carry plasters, and then wrap your feet for a few rounds in the places where they rub. Hopefully this will stop after a few rounds.
 
Got a pair of Footjoy AQL's, and they are so so comfy.

Have worn them 3 times now, and they're brilliant.

Prior to that I had FJ Greenjoys, also pretty comfy. Really cannot go wrong with FootJoy.
 
Only have Ecco's here now. The Biom hybrids are like slippers from the first off, and have stayed such. The Tour hybrids needed some breaking in at the heel but are now also very comfy. I used to use FJ, and never had any comfort issues..that is until my Contours brought on plantar fasciitis. Howver apart from that, they also didn't last longer than 16/18 months, and thats both Contours and a pair of Dryjoys. FJ quality is appaling now.

Buy Footjoy. They sell different lengths and widths. Use one of their feet measuring devices. As long as you are not buying freestyle they are spot on. Freestyle are amazing shoes but it's a little more challenging to get the right fit. I'm normally a 12 ended up with an 11 Wide. They are brilliant shoes though even more comfortable than my Hyperflex which is staggering :thup:
 
I've had two pairs of FJ Dryjoy Tours that have been agony to wear when new. The corners of the tongues pressed into the top of my feet. Cured this by applying liquid soap to the offending parts and they're now perfect.

I have a high arch (can wear slip-on's of any description) so Ecco's with the arch support bar may not be for you as they killed me.

I wear new shoes around the house for a wee while before playing just to make sure
 
I haven't had to break in a pair of shoes for years but I never buy a pair without trying them on first and having a good walk around the shop to see how they feel. As a preference I wear Footjoys as they suit my wider feet although I have also got a pair of Puma's and they are also really comfy. I have yet to find a pair of Adidas that fits me comfortably, though I keep trying them. Everybody seems to swear by Ecco but I tend to find they dig into the top of my feet just behind my toes. I've never tried Nikes. I also used to love Etonics when they were sold in the UK but you can't seem to get them over here any more. Hi-Tec always felt heavy.

I have ventured away from FJ a few times, and each time I've regretted it.
Have tried Nike and Stuburt before, (the Stuburt were cheap), but my mate now owns both pairs of these. The Stuburt in particular were very painful, I was hobbling after 9 holes and couldn't get shot of them quick enough.
I also have a pair of Adiboosts which are a bit tighter than my normal FJ's but I can just about get away with them by wearing thin socks. If my mate thinks he's going to inherit these, he has got another think coming. For the price I paid for them I'll persevere.
 
Never had to break in shoes. Any I have ever bought have been comfy from the off... one thing I do notice though are they the "Lasts" differ from shoe to shoe.

I've had different pairs over the years and I'm now wearing Adidas Gripmore Boosts.
These things are stupid comfy, both achilles injuries I had a few years ago seemed to have an effect on my wearing leather shoes. They kill my heels which is why I mainly now wear softer shoes and trainers whenever possible....
I have wide feet and prefer a wide toebox and the adidas I got are a wide fit. Perfect. Adidas are a naturally narrow fitting brand anyway.... don't just buy a show thinking it may stretch over time. Sometimes they won't.

A mate bought a pair of Stubburts and his feet were like a badly packed kebab after his round, always found them cheap and nasty going back to the 70's with their football boots than only had 2 studs in the front and two in the back.

Darren Clark doesn't even wear his Stubburt signature shoes whilst practicing

Everyone's feet are different and some even have different feet so someone's heaven will be someone's hell
 
My Puma Amp Cell Fusions took a couple rounds walking before I stopped getting a little blister on the back of my ankle, but now I could wear them all day without trouble

Also have a pair of Callaway shoes that were comfortable straight out of the box

The worst shoes for me are Adidas, the fit around the ankle doesn't work with my knackered ankle and the last time I tried a pair on I couldn't even stand still in them without being in pain
