Brampton / Silloth on Solway

I've played Silloth, it's a top quality track and I'm sure you will enjoy it. Aside from a great course, the bar snacks were pretty good if you are planning to eat there as well. Some parts of the clubhouse are really olde worlde, quite charming really.

Don't know anything about Brampton though. Hope you get decent waether as coastal courses can be pretty bleak if it's wet and windy

Played Brampton on a Mizuno Forum outing last year and it was a very nice course indeed. In fact we were so impressed with the overall condition and welcome given, we are going back later this month. The greens were very good on the day we visited, some interesting undulations on some of them as well. It's also got a good mix of longer and shorter holes, a classic 'old style' course. As others have said, some nice views, especially around the turn and into the back nine. The view from the 14th tee is quite spectacular. Nice friendly clubhouse and we certainly enjoyed the fare on offer from the caterer.

You should enjoy it.

Played Silloth last October in a gale and it was brilliant fun if a bit crazy at times! Wind was into us for the front 9 so a delight to turn but the sting in the tale is the SI1 which goes back into the wind and is tough...

Beware the heather - nasty stuff and I'm hopeless at getting out of it. Steps down into bunkers made me chuckle and I managed to stay out of them.

We really enjoyed the experience and plan to return this year.

Two very good, if rather different, courses. Brampton is a tricky parkland style course with a few elevations, but if you keep your ball in play, you can score well at it.

I was a member of Silloth in the 90s, and it is a lovely old style links. There are a few blind shots, so it is worth picking up a course guide before you set out. There aren't any holes that are out of range for the average player unless the wind is blowing, but you need to keep your ball in play and work out when discretion is the better part of valour. Try not to bite off too much, or it can nip back.

Brampton, its going to be fairly soft at the moment so much easier than when its dry when a tee shot can land in the middle of the fairway and end up in the rough. I like the layout and some great views. They had some issues with the greens last year and had to leave a little bit more grass on than usual so not sure how they are at the moment. A nice track and worth playing.

Silloth, hit the fairway at all costs, heather is a killer. As Ethan says nothing should be out of range unless really blowing (which it will be) and even then finding the fairway is key even if you are giving up distance. Prevailing wind usually into going out, so try and make your score coming home. Saying that wind has been coming from the opposite direct a lot recently so the reverse will apply. Its in good condition at the moment so you should enjoy. Tip, on the 13th the fairway is wider than you think of the tee, dont miss green left or right with approach as the heather will swallow it, think twice about going for the green with 2nd shot if in range as it can lead to big numbers if off line.
