Picked up a new-in-box set (4-PW, KBS Tour R-Flex) of Taylormade MC Tour Preferred irons on Wednesday to replace my ageing Wilson Staff Di9 set. Took a bit of a punt as I'd not hit them first, but at £249 for the set, it seemed like a reasonable risk. Seen them go for that used on eBay.

Been on the range with them and though they may be old (2014) technology, they look fabulous and are hands down the best irons I've ever hit (for me, better than AP2, Steelhead, M2 and others I've tried).

They feel amazing with good distance and really good dispersion too. Just hoping to replicate that on the course tomorrow on the Captain's Drive-In and the rest of the season.

Yes enjoy, had a look in AG today and still love the look of the Callaway apex 16 forged. Also liked the look of the Ping i200 which had the same lines as the Callaway, but with a slightly bigger head.

One of my friends plays with Callaway Apex irons and loves 'em.

I wanted something more bladelike and to be honest wanted something cheaper too. Had strongly considered going with AP2-716 even though they were well at the top end of what I could afford, and did try some out. They look great, but I didn't hit them well at all.

Also considered various Mizuno, but didn't get around to hitting any. Some of them look stunning too. One of my society playing partners bought Benross HTX Type R irons last season and rates them very highly.

Had pretty much decided to not change my irons, but instead try to improve my ball striking with the Di9s. But the MC TP seemed like to good an opportunity to miss. Still need to work on my ball striking of course...

I've tried the I200 and like them. Depends what size head you want to see behind the ball really. The Cally definitely a smaller head but wouldn't think much in it on the top line
