I'm thinking of going to one of the practice days (Tuesday or Wednesday) at Wentworth this year and taking my boy and his friend along. Am considering one of the practice days as it will be quieter and they will want to go off and get autographs etc/do their own thing. Just wondering what peoples experiences of both are as I know Wednesday should be busier because its the pro am. Also for their interest which is the better for them to get close up and get autographs etc of golfers as I don't think the kids will be too bothered about seeing celebs play as they probably wouldn't know half of them being fairly young. Do most golfers go out on the practice day, do they play most holes and do they play alone or together?? Just looking for a rough idea and what people thought of it.

Not been to a practice day, but have been to the Pro-Am on several occasions.
It's a great day out, relaxed atmosphere and the players are more than willing to sign things and have photos taken etc.

There are often a few footballers dotted around the celebs, there is a shotgun start at 8 am and another at 1.pm so it's a structured day with most of the top players taking part.

whenever you go, enjoy it's a good day out

I've not been to the PGA but have been to a couple of practice days for the Open.
Players are more approachable and you can see a lot more due to the lower numbers in attendance.
My last visit was a long (long) time ago, saw most players apart from Tiger, who teed off around the back of the course around 6am, played a few holes before the crowds arrived and then legged it back to his hotel room. Bit cheesed off with that because it was him we had taken my mates nephew down to see.

Ive been to the practice days many many times. The good thing is that you will get close to the players, they will be more relaxed and approachable and, on the Wednesday there will be quite a few celebrities to see too.

The kids will love it but, of course, you will not see golf of the highest order as you would during competition play but I always liked standing on the range watching the pros hitting. If you do go don't miss having a hot dog etc a Yum Yum van - the best chuck wagon there! The only downside is that practice days used to be free but now are not

I hope you all enjoy it

Tuesday will be better if you and your son want to get fairly close to just the pros and Wednesday will be busier with more celebs around. Either day is good really and still less crowded (and therefore easier) to move around the course

Be aware that not all the pros will play a practice round on the Tuesday, also you often find that the big names may only play a few holes. Quite often, they use the pro-am on wednesday as their practice round. So, although there will be more spectators and the celebs playing, Wednesday is usually the better day to attend. Most of the players will stop during the round to sign autographs or have pictures taken, occasionally you will get a pro that says they will not sign during the round but will stay on after they finish to sign etc.

Prefer the Tuesday for golf myself. More players out on the course and on the range. The Wednesday is good but if your not fussed about the celebs then walking around you only see one pro too three celebs.

Went last year to the Wednesday and Thursday and just the Tuesday the year before. This year going Wednesday to Sunday, the Wednesday is good for the Mrs as she likes the celebs.

The range is the best place to be to see how the pros practice and warm up etc. Good to see all the different swings out on tour. Could sit there all day watching.

Tuesday definitely.
As others have said, players are more relaxed, more approachable, often the ropes aren't even up properly, and you can take photos.
Personally I've always got a heck of a lot more out of the early practice days as opposed to the madhouse weekends.

Planning on going on Saturday. We went on Friday last year but going on the weekend to avoid any rush hour issues on the M3. Expecting it to be a lot busier than it was on the Friday but hey ho.

I was planning to go to a practice day this year as well. Been on Sunday for the last 3-4 years and loved it.

By the sound of it I'll be going on the Tuesday. Watching celebs hack it around has no interest to me.

Thanks for all the responses guys didn't expect so many but yes I like he sound of the pro am but would prefer to see more of the pros playing, it would be nice to see a few celebs play but would probably make me want to play myself if some weren't that great haha, may try the Tuesday practice day and see how that goes but both sound like a good day out, what sort of times do they go out on the Tuesday and do they have a rough time schedule etc or just co platelet random who goes out when?

Pro am is always good fun however one problem this year (and last) - Niall Horran.

He (not his fault) has turned the event into a one direction fan fest. Love that it might get more youngsters into the game, hate that the pro am is so busy now

Also need to be aware that many of the celebs are not great golfers so need to be careful where you stand. Have seen several people hit by balls that were way off line.

They just go out randomly. Just a bit of luck of who you see when. Set up at the range and see who's out and when they move on head to the first and see if they go out. Luckily the first is pretty much next to the range so not much distance to travel.

I didn't think it was that bad with Niall there. Last year the Mrs wanted to follow him and luckily for me he was playing with Rory. So we followed them for most of the day and we got to see plenty and hardly anyone following them. The only busy but was at the range before they went out because there was a bunch of mothers there with their kids trying to get a photo. But by 9am they had all gone.

These were the line ups for LAST years Pro Am
You get the gist of the calibre of pro and celeb

Probably be 75% the same celebs this year.

I know Niall is playing with Rose this year which suggests to me Rory wont be playing in it

Is it not because Justin and Niall are supporting the same foundation and have a charity day lined up together? If have thought Rory will still play, most like with the ex Manchester United players.
