Birdies ....

i am averaging just under 1 around this year in competition. sometimes they are like buses! 3 in one round is the most ive had.

the 10th i take two irons instead of driver so usally leave 160 approach. this takes out the danger of water left and ob right off the tee so i can see why my birdie opportunites would be limited here. still kind of surprised i havnt rolled one in on this hole as i am not pleased with a bogey at this hole ever!

Playing that hole that way your always gonna struggle to birdie it I would say mate

Over the years ive played there ive come to the conclusion that the best way to play that hole is to take driver and aim at the corner of the water where the fairway bends round and fade the ball back into the fairway.

If you pull it left your in the water, dropping and playing 3 from around 180 out, if you hit it straight you might get lucky and stay dry and obviously if your fade works your in perfect position and playing 2 from around 150 out.

More chance of making birdie or par from that than always playing your third from 160 out I would say. And the more you hit the fairway the more confident youll feel of hitting it every time your standing on the tee.

Try it when you playing bounce games, I know it works for me on that hole

im not too bothered about not making birdie a that hole. more surprised than anything. as i say i par the hole more often that not. two 7 irons takes you to the green so its either two putts or a small chip and putt.

i just dont trust myself with the big stick there. especially when the wind gets up. the last thing i want to do is go OOB! not worth the risk. if its blowing hard into the face then i can hit 4iron or hybrid from the whites.

defs a risk / reward hole. i just dont think the rewards are worth risking a good 9 holes previous.

just checked the stats. parred it 7of the last 8 rounds in comp its SI 6 or something silly like that. gift wrapped 3 points

I've only managed birdies on 9 holes this year.
I have been cut from 6.3 to 4.9, as such I'm something of a par machine when things are going well.
If only a few more of those birdie putts would drop...

Nett birdies are usually my aim. There is never EVER anything wrong with par golf IMO. I strive for pars by planning the hole backwards.

This often means birdies come from long holed putts or good 3rd shots on par 5s.

I always try to think of par as a good target but never let it dictate how I play a hole. There are plenty where walking off with a two putt for bogey is a good thing! That often matches the field for the longer holes of any par.

I guess you often have two shots on the longer holes? Might be worth using one of them to take a short club off the tee. If you feel confident with say a 5 iron that goes 160 yards then three of them gets you yards down there, leaving say just 60 odd yards to pitch onto a long par 5. Two putts for a 6 and you walk away happy and with a nett birdie! On a long par 4 two mid iron hybrids and a pitch should give you a chance for an easy 6
