Birdie Conversion Rate

Ok, so following on from the thread about making more birdies, I thought I would start a poll to see how often other people converted chances of birdie.

If you keep stats then great, but if you don't then a guesstimate will do fine. Obviously an honest appraisal will give more accurate guesstimates.

So you get your average number of birdies per round, and divide it by your average number of GIR per round, and multiply by 100 to get the percentage.

Using me as an example:

1.5 birdies divided by 8 GIR gives 0.1875. Multiply by 100 to get 18.75%

I generally hit quite long so do get quite a few GIR but my putting just isn't anywhere near good enough at the moment (I'm blaming winter). Plus most of the time I'm just trying to get within a few feet to take a nice tidy par so sometimes end up being too careful.

As a complete guess I'm going for 20% ish. Last Saturday I had a 100% conversion rate, but I did only hit 1 GIR

The whole of last year my conversion rate was 20%
This year so far it's only at 7 but it will get better.....
That's why I've gone with Option 2

19.33% in the last 18mths according to the stats website I use. Predicted target 23%. Saturday's round, 60%.

I've no idea of an actual but I normally make 1-3 birdies per round and normally hit something like 10-12 GIR so I've gone for 20% as a guestimate!

No idea, very low so I've gone for 0-9%.

I'd say just under 20% for me. I usually hit 60-65% greens in regulation and make on average 2 birdies per round.

I don't record stats but would guess that if I hit a GIR, then I'd birdie 1 in 5 so have put my mark on 10-19%.

Didn't see Golfsaint's reply befire I posted mine, but I guess we're in the same boat. The only birdies I see at Whickham are pheasants and the occasional red kite. Never seen an eagle.

As I don't hit many GIRs then I went for 10-19%. Just a guess but I doubt it's much higher than that.

Having a high conversion rate might sound great but if you only hit one green in regulation, and birdie it, 100%... you could be 100 over par and still have a great conversion rate...

At the end of the day its the total score against handicap that decides if you're playing well...

If you mean gross as opposed to nett, ie. you must hit a par 4 green in 2 even if you get a shot on it, then yes.

Of course you're right, but it's only a question.

You could answer the same way to lots of threads on here. I'm not trying to figure out if I'm playing well, just if I'm in the same ball park as others on one small part of the game.

I'm not going to beat myself up because your % is higher than mine though because you could putt me off the face of the planet all day long :thup:
