Best piece of advice for a beginner

Got to be honest and say I wouldn't mind Smiffy as a partner in a match. Even on an off day he'll hang in there and usually nicks the odd hole to keep things interesting. Plenty of people I'd rather not be paired with Smiffy isn't one of them
 
Keep up the lessons, practise alot but always enjoy playing even when it stinks, just be glad to be out there. I've beat myself up so many times I started to hate it, just enjoying the game helped take the pressure off and have played alot better for it. Oh and don't think along the lines of if it hit this perfect etc play to your limits and scores will drop.
 
Listen to your pro and try to practice the drills as much as possible. Practice makes permanent.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately my pro is ill so my lesson didnt happen so its off to the course tomorrow with your advice in mind.
