Hi, first post so thought I would introduce myself and ask for as much advice as possible. I have been trying to play since September, have had 8 group lessons at a very nice golf club which I have joined on a beginners membership. I have been playing pitch and putt, then onto the practice 3 hole course, and the driving range, slowly gaining confidence and have now gone out on to the full size course twice, and loving it. I have one to one lessons booked and would appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

Have that last lesson (or get another) as a short playing lesson out on the course.

Other than that, swing within yourself, have fun and see where that takes you.

Welcome on board Mark

You've done the right thing already by getting some lessons early. The best piece of advice I can give is to keep enjoying it, there will be days when you play terribly and you won't know why. Just accept them and keep trying, everyone has bad days and even weeks and months.

Welcome to the forum. You seem to be doing all the right things already.

I'd say listen carefully to what the pro says then try to practice it as much as you can.

There's lots of good advice on here about how to play, where to play, and what to play with, so don't be afraid to ask.

All the best.

Hi and Welcome,

Lessons is the way to go. Wish i had started with lessons, wouldn't have the rubbish swing i have now had i started with lesson as you have.

Good luck and make sure you practice the advice you get from the lessons.

Mark,
keep the driver in the bag for a good while. Its the hardest club in the bag and probably won't go a lot further than a good 3 wood or utility or even long iron to start with. ;)

good luck, keep it on the short grass :D

Welcome Mark,
Like most of the other guys have said, keep the lessons up for the time being. If you get the basics right from the start you should be able to make some real progress and enjoy it even more. Then you will become obsessed with it like the rest of us and that's when the trouble starts :D

Try snooker!!!! :D

Only kidding, Welcome to the forum.
Lessons are defo the way forward and try not to be tempted too early with all the shiny stuff.

Oh and enjoy it, remember it is just a daft game!!

Don't have any lessons
Don't practice
Don't warm up before games
If a club doesn't work, it's the club's fault so buy another one.
Carry at least 4 wedges
Dont read the rules.
Write a blog
Buy every new Taylor made driver that comes out.
Also buy a chipper and some white trousers.
If you can get all that, you'll fit in here just lovely :)

Good luck.
Did I mention a V-Easy? :D

Hi Mark, welcome. Sounds to me like your doing the right thing.

Thanks for all the advice, must admit I do have a good pro instructor, lessons and practice and a lot of fun for me then.

In my opinion - my advice would be practice the short game as much as possible - become an expert from 100 yards in. If you can pitch, chip and put well, you can score.

Also - always keep in mind that the swing is powered and guided from the waist down - you must have good footwork to hit the ball well, consistently. I'm no pro, but this has been the advice given to me by every pro I have studied with, and from every book I have read about the swing, from Jim McLean to Tom Watson to Jimmy Ballard - they all preach the same movements.

Best of luck!!!

Jason

Hi and welcome

Depending on how often you are able to practice at the moment I wouldn't have more than one lesson a month, dont expect to much to soon, relax and remember to enjoy the good and forget the bad.
