just had a lesson and it was probably the simplest yet most rewarding yet.

I turned up, purchased a bucket of balls and was informed I wont be needing them as we are heading off to the grass area and he has a load of balls already. !st up went to a bunker, drew a line in the sand then explained about taking divots etc. Moved onto the grass and proceeded to do the same, 3 practice swings then the ball, everytime I caught a sweet one the divot was 2-4 inches from where the ball was, every duff was 1st felt through the club, he asked me where do I think the divot was and I knew it was behind instead of infront. we went through some swing mechanics, watched a short slow mo vid and gave me some drills to practice with or without balls to get used to taking divots and to ingrain it into my swing.

As I only practice off mats when I play I rarely take a divot but this lesson really clicked with me. I was even striking the balls better off the mats afterwards and as straight as a die or a slight fade.... no slice or wayward right

soz to drone on but after he said I have a good swing and improved loads since I 1st started in November I was feeling right chuffed :D

Similar effect for the range off the mats: take a scorecard with you and place it 3 inches behind the ball. Aim to hit the ball and miss the scorecard. If you come in too far behind the ball, the scorecard will fly off the mat. Keep moving the scorecard forward closer to the ball as you get better at striking.

Played twice the weekend - both times way off the mark. By chance had a lesson booked with my pro tuesday night. He was running late and i had to take a phone call from work so all in all we had about 20 mins.
He asked what my problems were so i explained i was hitting a lot of different and bad shots. So he watched me hit about 5 shots, smiled took me on the video camera filmed 3 shots - put the plane line on. Then played them back in slow mo and said can you see what you are doing wrong. In a word yes i said.
He gave me a basket of about 150 balls a head cover and a towel and said hit all those and bring the towel and head cover back when you are finished.
Wednesday night played 18 holes - dropped 3 shots on the front and shot 8 over gross.
Are lessons worth it - every penny - even if it did work out to £1 per minute

:)

I agree totally

1st lesson - compressing the ball (after looking at my grip & basic swing)

2nd lesson alignment

3rd lesson - ball striking

my grip is now an interlock which I have changed to of my own accord and is apparently very sound, my swing is also sound so he hasnt really had to mess with it much at all.

my next lesson in 2 weeks is going to be driving and playing off the tee which is my weakest area. before then I am going over the field opposite my house and practice the drills given.

he reckons it takes 10,000 swings to ingrain something!!!! based on 100 swings a day thats 3 months!!! sounds a lot but nothing in golf is instant :)

Had a chipping lesson and the Linear method I was shown is equally as simple. Really cleared my head of all the stuff that was stopping me executing and its free to swing with ease and conviction and get it close
