I always snifff every bottle of milk when I use it.
Its not just the date on the foil top, but what the weather has been and what day of the week it was delivered.
I do find though that shaking the bottle vigourously when bringing it in first thing in the morning, and then regular shaking all the time its in the fridge helps a lot.
Homogenised milk seems to last a lttle longer, but I still treat it the same way.

I wouldn't, my wife would after a good sniff.

We all have different tolerances, but I often get told off for chucking stuff on the day of expiry. We grabbed a box of bottled Madri from the garage for daughter’s Christmas day meal and it expired June 2024. Took it, it was consumed and no reported deaths, yet.

Favourite bit of my local off-licence is the shelf of cheapness by the door where they sell off expired beer etc 1-6 months past date at very low prices. All the offer/price posters have expiry date in big writing, so you know exactly what you’re getting and can make your own choice. Everything had always been no different to normal

Same on eggs as well now.

Back in the early 1970s my holiday job was working in a holiday camp kitchen.

They bought the eggs in May for the entire season which ended on 2nd week of September.

We have some cans of Holsten Pils now 5 months past their best by date…I can’t see the issue drinking it - if that’s what my lad is happy to do.

Sqn bar was giving away bottles of Peroni for free as they went out of date last January, 6 crates were happily drunk FoC by all the lads and no one died

I buy that filtered milk. It keeps really well and tastes better to me.

Totally agree.. Like a cravendale or Arla Bob if I am having a glass of milk..
Although some would say our milk is more like water... We mostly drink skimmed milk. Full fat tastes gross to me now. Semi skimmed is fine.

I usually use semi but have occasional treat of full milk on porridge or cereal.

Me and my Mrs had same conversation yesterday about left-over turkey and ham from Christmas Day. It looked and smelled OK, but it was just past the limit of what is recommended for such left-overs tightly wrapped and refrigerated. It was the latter but not the former…so for the sake of a couple of slices of either risking dicky tummy with us heading on hols in a weeks time, into the waste it went.

We finished off the turkey yesterday and I managed 18 holes today without keeling over!
