due to a bad back i am moving over to use a belly putter, can anyone tell me what to look for and what to avoid and which is this best type i use a rossa malet at the moment any advice would be welcome thanks

I've found that most large retailers only stock a limited range which I've often found surprising. My advice would be to shop around and see what is out there. You may find that with the different technique involved that a blade may suit you better. Try before you buy

Ping make just about every model in a belly putter option. If you like the mallet style then look at either the Ping Craz_e or Odyssey 2-ball.

Both should easily be ordered through a pro shop or picked up on ebay if you type in belly putter a good few are usually listed.

Hope that helps dude!

I would go through ebay, as it is most likely to end up back on here when you find it is horrid. Not worth splurging big on it and losing a bundle. Every one I know who has tried one of these has subsequently sold it.

Good luck.

due to a bad back? who advised using a belly putter for that? the posture you adopt with a mid length (belly) is essentially the same as you would with a regular length. The benefits of the belly is that it wedges against your belly giving greater pendulum effect and there are even more putting grips you can apply. I wouldn't see it as a cure to back pain when putting?

I have a 43" White Steel 2-ball that I go back to occassionally when struggling with the wee stick. I've only ever used the 2ball in mid length and can recommend that style to install a bit of confidence.

I am a baddie on this subject as I believe the only putter anyone should use is a standard club type. Every club in the bag is held in the hands and strikes the ball in a standard swing method. Belly putters long chin putters and any others start using a different method which have been argued by many as gaining advantage in some way and even though most of those who use them never lower their h/c (lol) I still feel they are wrong.I wonder if they would allow one shaped like a snooker cue as I am pretty damn good at snooker.

It is possible to use a belly putter by holding it with a standard putting & just have the shaft up against the belly. I believe VJ is suppposed to have used one this way.

As to whether a belly putter is going to be any good for a bad back, who knows, maybe, & maybe not.

On the subject of putting, rather than trying a belly putter has anyone ever tried putting left handed (or if left handed, right handed)

What is it that causes you a bad back with a normal putter, surely its the same for your irons no?

Yes!!!

But only on a putting green with a mate and my four year old son.

We were given toe heel putters that could be used either hand, thought we'd try it for a laugh (me and mate, not the four year old) first one I sent to within a foot of the cup and got down in two, after that I was absolutly useless with the wrong hand.

Never again!!!
