Didnt try for the main but met many main tour caddies who were moonlighting on the seniors who knew the SP inside out.You know the seniors guys arnt a pushover, far from it infact I would say its harder to caddy for these experianced tour players than any younger guy on the main, one guy I caddied for spent 25 years on the main Euro and the other player was in and out the PGA tour for 30 years, believe me these guys are no push over to bag for.Blagged it but learnt it pretty quickly, you have to else your out and word gets about pretty quickly and you'll have no chance of getting work with a bad reputation.

I know quite a few current and ex tour Caddies, including at least 1 mentioned in '4-iron in My soul' (Edinburgh Jim). My 'Ex' used to be one of the few teachers who appreciated Mick Doran's priority when he was skiving off school to work at Wentworth before making it on the Tour - helped restore several players resurgence.
Impossible to 'blag' on the Main Tour - as most are either the player's existing guy or arranged through the player's Agents.
Pretty cut-throat business amongst peers and Players are just as likely to drop a Caddie when it's their fault they are playing badly.

I wouldn't suggest going straight on the main tour blagging or any tour if you haven't a clue,but like I said its a very fast learning process,it has to be....

And while there may have been a time when caddying experience alone was sufficient, but of the 4 Tour guys I know, 3 are Cat 1s (1 scratch and makes Golf look so easy!) and the other is a Pro!
Good player doesent always make a good caddie, infact the top caddies in the world Steve Williams,Billy Foster, Bones, Wobbly none of them are players of any repute and two of them are caddy millionares.
