Beau Desert in 10 days wooooot

Yep, up point one as expected. Bungee the parachute out early, had a nine on the par four fifth. Sad part is, there wasn't a shot I wouldn't play exactly the same again.

Just to confirm to all going that Jacket & Tie are required for the meal in the evening.

There won't be a presentation as such, just a blathering fool handing some loose change out, probably after the food depending on how early the last group finish.

I am assuming there are facilities to shower and change after the 2nd round Region?

I was gonna wear my suit Aztecs but as its older than my kids I thought a new jacket/trousers was in order :)

Yes, there are splendid facilities :D

the online course guide is quite good tho, might well dload it and make my own.... nah cba :)

Hey Gibbo thats all I did , got the missus to copy and paste all the holes onto A4 (2 per page) and then printed them out. Cut them into manageable sizes and voila..a course guide :D

Have you measured distances as well or just got the pics?
Pro's tips as well? :p

As I said in another thread somewhere, you get no idea of the elevation changes from the pictures, which is odd because normally from google maps you get a bit of a clue.

Just for those going that haven't been before, and are so bored/desperate for info that they won't fall asleep reading this, what I remember (I've a bad memory) of selected holes is this.
Apologies to those not interested. Alt+F4 should do it. :D

First thoughts from inside the clubhouse looking out to the 18th green: "Oh my lord that is huge", and "I hope I don't thin one over the green"

1. I spent the days leading up to the day wondering how close I could get to the first green. Standing on the tee that's the last thing on your mind. Enough of a carry over heather to make you twitch (40-50yds?) and the hole is all uphill so the end of the heather is above the tee.
Also on your mind is "Why is there a green satellite dish nailed to a tree?"
I can't tell you what the green is like because I never found my drive. :o

2. You can't smash driver here unless you hit a draw because you'll run out of fairway. To save embarrassment of not being able to hit a draw I just pushed a 3 wood into the rough on the right. It only makes the hole about 60yds longer.

3. Another elevation change, this time about a club difference downhill. I hit 7 iron to about 15' and 4-putted. Did I ever mention I wasn't good on fast greens?
Somebody (ahem... Pike) pulled their tee shot and the 4th tee is about 10yds left of the 3rd green. Fore!!!
They all took cover - well, hunched over with their arms over their heads - and the ball smacked one of them straight on the backside. First time I ever remember seeing anyone hit by a golf ball.

4. Another short par 4 with an uphill tee shot, but then around the slight dogleg and downhill to the green.
Iron off the tee, wedge on, and a solid 2 putts is NOT how I played it.

5. Another tee shot out of a chute of trees to a dogleg (yellow tees may be straighter with the rest of the hole). Another 3 wood for safety pushed into the right hand rough.

6. Straight downhill, and narrow off the tee. Trees either side of the fairway. One of the trickiest greens too. I was about 10' above the hole and putted off the green, and I'm normally awesome on fast greens!

8. Another tee shot out of trees and at an angle to the fairway. Can't remember what I did here, but I can probably guess

9. The one everyone's looking forward to. 260yd par 4. If you lay up the fairway is well below the green. I positioned myself in the fairway off a big tree just short right of the green. Got to know your angles!
I can't remember who, but someone nearly had a hole in one, left himself with a tap in eagle.

12. One of the officials of the club was touring the course in a cart, making sure everyone was having a good day and giving tips on the holes, which we all thought was really nice.
"The ideal line off this tee is straight up the path with a fade".
2 of us hit straight up the path but didn't get the fade and ended up chipping out of the trees on the far side of the fairway and the best tee shot of the 4 of us was over the right hand trees with a draw.
My addition to the tip is "but don't take any more club than about 220 because if you don't get the fade you'll be in the trees on the far side of the fairway"

14. Not a long hole but mostly uphill, and the green is huge with big undulations.
I unleashed a monster tee shot of 256 here to win the longest drive :)
I had a slight advantage though as anyone who plays a draw has a tree in the way.

15. The aerial map shows a patch of rough splitting the fairway at driving distance. I wish my memory wasn't so bad because I can't remember now if it's stuff you don't want to risk going in or not? I hit an 'easy' tee shot and was 30-40yds short of it. Obviously off the yellows it will be more in range.
The green is below the fairway so much that from about 140 I couldn't see the bottom of the flag. Apparently, according to the group in front on the next tee my ball pitched, bounced, and spun back to about 3' which I'm confident of getting down in 2 from for a solid par.

16. Uphill par 3. The pro's tip says "don't go over the back". I'd change that to don't miss the green. Very tricky.

18. Another par 5 where you can't go hell for leather off the tee (maybe?) because of bunkers at driving distance. Might be doable depending on how far forward the yellow tees are of the whites.
If you lay up just short of the fairway bunkers, the setting for the next shot is superb! 2 easy wedges of go for it over another rather large patch of ball swallowing heather downhill to a very large green and the clubhouse just behind.
It was my favourite shot of the day. Not that it was my best shot of the day, just the setting.
You'll see :)

Sorry again for the rambling waffle, I hope you're still looking forward to going :D

I really wish I hadn't sent everybody to sleep now. I hope you're still reading if you're playing next week.

I need to make menu choices today. The options are on the draw thread in Arrange A Game.

Please reply there with your preferences, thanks.

will do, might see if I can sort a few distances, will do it for the whites and yellows

it aint a long course so whites dont make much doifference imho :)

As JD said, we'll be off the yellows.

GM managed to get us off the whites, but I asked and it's yellows for us.

Don't be worried that the course will be too easy off the yellows. Length is not it's defence :D

There are now 2 spaces available for this.

Very short notice but hopefully we can fill them. Posted about on the draw thread in Arrange A Game.
