After reading another thread I'm compelled to ask a question about ball choice.
Why do you all play the same ball during the season? Is it for the same feel when putting or maybe for more spin or distance?
Since my game has improved I've gone from losing maybe 3-4 balls per round to none during my last 3-4 rounds. I guess now is the right time to consider using the same ball rather than what my hand touches first when it goes into the bag (I'm aware that comment could be taken one of a few ways) :D
Originating from Yorkshire means I have no quibbles with buying 100 lake balls from the local course scrounger rather than spending £15 - £20 for 10

Just wondering like.

Personally I don't, I'll use whatever premium balls I can get my hands on for the best price. I have a preference for HEX Black tour, Z-Star or B330S but if I can get some other Premium ball on offer I'll go with them.

I usually get 20 pearl bridgestone e6 off eBay for £16ish.
But Ill quite happily use Srixon ad333s or Titleist nxt.
I tend to stay clear of premium balls as I can't justify the price at my level.

I usually use a Pro V1 all year round, but I'm considering changing to a mid range ball for the winter.

It may sound stupid, but when playing the same ball for a preiod of time, you begin to get a feeling as to how the ball will react when it lands, how it flies, the 'feel' off the various clubs.

i may be talking complete guff, but then, it wouldn't be the first time

Seems everyone is talking baws today :D
Personally I stick with one ball for consistency and try not to change type during a round.
Finding one you like is trial and error. But as the only bit of kit you uae on every shot I try to keep variation I can control to a minimun.

Same ball all the time for me, for at least 12 months now. Titleist Velocity - played out of my skin one round with it a long time ago and have never looked back. I have no use/skill/need/money for a premium ball.

I've struggled all summer using a premium ball....I switched to my winter ball last weekend and shot 5 under my handicap midweek. Maybe I'm suited to rubbish balls?

This is what I'm playing at the moment:

I just do it for consistency, really. If you use the same ball all the time, you'll have a good idea how it will react when you hit certain shots. That must be helpful, I'd have thought, particularly around the greens.

I don't really care which ball it is, so long as there's a bit of spin in it.

I took a look at my ball stash the other day I currently have a dozen of;

Mizuno D201
Wilson Staff DX2
Wilson Staff DX3
Taylormade Lethal
Bridgestone B333 RX

As well as a few TM black and burner LDP lake balls

My favourite so far is the DX2 it's a cracking ball and feels really soft (although I'm yet to try the mizunos or the lethals) and you can get them for £12.99 a box!!

I always play with a premium ball but it doesn't really matter. Some mates and I used to play a bounce game where we all had to choose a ball for the others to play with. I brought out Wilson Staff Distance balls of some kind for them once and it was harder than a diamond. Dave (HC +1) took it off me and then beat us hollow with a 4 under gross round. Said he quite liked it, even though it raced off the putter like a scalded cat!

Ball choice doesn't matter as much as people think.

Having been lucky enough to try out a dozen of the dx2's they are a tidy ball. They are now way a premium ball but spin well enough and feel really nice off the putter in my opinion. A great ball for the price. Plus I don't cry when I lose one!

Why would you play the premium balls if it really doesn't matter?

I think Snelly means 'the ball's not a barrier to good performance'.

It does matter in that they (by type or design) will perform slightly differently when the same shot is played - from drive to putt. As long as you can factor that in to your game the ball doesn't matter.

If you prefer a particular feel when striking the ball - whether with putter, iron, wood or all 3; then it will matter to you!

It extremes of course set up it will also make a difference to even the elite players - but not as much as many perceive; the player that can screw back a ProV1 30ft in a particular situation will be able to do 20ft with an NXT, but then again most people I play with use trajectory in combination with soft greens to stop the ball!

Know your balls is more important from a performance perspective than which ball - as long as you play with one that feels right for you.

They are also continuosly changing them - so yesterday's NXT Tour is not the same as today's! The one that's changed the most IMO over the last release is the Titliest DT Solo; the one with the Blue and Red wording didn't have a whole lot going for it except price - the new one is really rather good IMO, very good....there's no technical reason for it, in the same way as the Srixon Soft Feel. Highly recommend people try one.

I think all the modern premium balls are so good they are more or less interchangeable. Currently I use the Mizuno MP ball but the Pro V1x, Callaway Hex black, TM Lethal etc are all excellent too.

My drives definitely go straighter with the e6,could be a mental thing tho. As long as they keep landing on the fairway I'll keep using them.

There is always someone selling of last years premium balls at a bargain price. I keep an eye out and stock up if i am running low. This year it was the B330 at £17 per doz

I do mean that yes. The ball won't make you better or worse.

I play with Pro V1's as I prefer the feel off the wedge or putter with them. I can still chip and putt well with a harder ball if needs be but I don't through choice.
