The thread about someone markign the card wrong made me recall a bad luck story that happened to me.
Years ago when I used to play regularly, I was going on holiday and the Captains day was the day I got back, as I would be not arriving home until about 7am after being up all night, I asked my dad if he would put my name on the sheet for an afternoon tee time. So I got home and asked my dad what time I was playing at. 10am he tells me!!!
Nothing for it but to get to the club and give it my best, despite feeling shattered. I started well and with decent scorin and adrenalin I reached the 15th thinking I just need to bogey the remaining 4 holes for a net 62. After 2 shots on the 15th my ball was just short of the green and one of myt playing partners played is shot and his ball struck mine,. one ball bounced onto the green and the other bounced sideways into a worse position at the bottom of a bank to the side of the green. I walked upto this ball first, saw it was a dunlop which I was playing with, the other guy had been playing with a different brand. I chipped this ball onto the green not very successfully and then played my 4th shot towards the flag. The other guy went to mark his ball and said "this isnt mine, you must have played my ball" no says I, I am playign a dunlop, you are playing something else, "No I am playing a dunlop too, I changed it on this hole," so I had 4 shots I had taken, plus 2 penalties for playin the wrong ball, I was so wound up I then 3 putted for about 10 feet for a 9!!! I completely went to pieces over the last 3 holes and ended up with about a net 75. All because someone idiot hadn't said he had changed his ball!
So thats my tale of woe, anyone else got any good ones.
