Bad etiquette from the 'older generation'

I think I would have been a gent and invited them to play through after the 3rd.......and then on the next hole hit my drive right up their arses! - then continue to do so on every hole after!

I would have let them through after the 2nd and then given them a taste of their own medicine for a few holes.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine not so long ago, very similar story in fact. On the drivable par 4 a ball pitched on the green, in front of him, whist putting, again no call of "fore". He put the ball in his pocket and walked off the green and carried on with his round.

He left the ball at the bottom of the pin hole on the next green.

The whole reason he mentions them as seniors is to imply they should know better and not an ageism argument. Unless I'm missisng something and old mother time is catching up on me too ;)

The actions of these two 'golfers' is a disgrace and as pointed out previoulsy, if it's not the 1st time why have they been allowed to continue, I wouldn't be joining a club with such members.

OMFG!!!!!

After somebody posed the question about why nothing had been done about these guys previously, I have just rang the club and asked as I ought to have asked when I spoke to the manager.

The guy who came down the fairway to square up to me is the ex club president from 2008 and seems to think he is untouchable, the manager I have just spoke to (not the guy I spoke to the other day) seems to detest this guy from the tone in his voice.

Keep picking up his ball as a FIND , if he confronts you about it say , jeez it couldnt be yours surely an experienced golfer as yourself wouldnt hit off with a player in range, would you ?? , nah i didnt think so , it must be a find ...

I cant condone their behaviour.
However you probably should have let them through at the 2nd tee.
215 yards,your 35 and you laid up.
Him being a senior drove the green, this tells me they were going to outdrive you consistently, and you were always going to hold them up.
I dont think ive ever seen a 35 year old lay up on a 215 yard hole, however i have seen a senior
player unable to reach due to age.

Two driveable Par 4's in the first three holes with one of them being blind........... I would never join a club with this type of layout no matter how close to home.

There must be countless accidents or near misses there surely?

Think he layd up because there was people on the green tho ..

Yup, as Blade says, there were people on the green and even if there wasnt its not really a green you can go for unless you are deadly accurate. The green is about 25yds higher than the tee and is up a bank on the left, OOB is to the back and right of the green, so unless you can hit a really high fade that you can get to land softly, you risk a penalty. Risk & reward but the risk far outweights the reward!!!

name and shame

Come on forummers!
The original poster's location is shown as Nottingham. Spreading out from Nottingham, how many courses start with a 215 yard par 4, followed by a longish par 5 then a driveable par 4.
Someone must recognise the layout.

how on earth do you arrive at that conclusion? where on earth does it state that right of way goes to a golfer who can hit the ball a bit further? I take it at a congested first tee the order of play is decided by whoever can p highest?

Its no secret lol, I missed that post/question.

The course is Leen Valley in Hucknall

Personally I'd ring back and say you were struck by the ball and having taken legal advice will now be taking action against both the golfer and the club as this guy had history and doen it before. That should be a few bums twitching and may even force them to confront the problem. Personally I'd have just kept hitting the balls back. If he goes for you a) it's assault and you can get him nicked b) the club should chuck him out following this and c) with a witness it was self defence as you batter him back.

This incident, confirms what i've always thought.People over the age of 35 shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a golf course, they are a nuisance, and in this instance,a dangerous nuisance.
