Back Spin

I once hit a ball that spun back for 3 years, it went twice round the world until it went in the hole. Unfortunately I hit the 8 iron shot at the 5th hole, Cape Cornwall, UK, and it went in the 8th hole at Cape Kidnappers, NZ. Can anyone suggest how I get less than 3 months backspin, say 100 feet as opposed to 3 years?

Thanks in advance

My advice would be to not hit it so hard, set up with the ball nearer your left foot, open your stance a bit, and then aim only 2 months beyond the hole.

Have a word with Brendan. He obviously doesn't hit it as well as you do.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the Replies, well I went out on wednesday and played 12 or 13 holes, and tried swinging that bit easier and hitting a few punch shots and to be fair they did work.

Swinging that bit easier is going to take abit of getting use to,keep getting the feeling that im not going to get there.

The puch shot is the one that worked a threat though, normally only play a punch shot in the wind, I over hit a few greens and lost a few to the left but I think i can iron out those problems with a bit of practice.
Spin wise it was more of pitch and stop or maybe a small bit of spin back to the pitch mark.

Sorry for not getting back sooner but for my 13 holes on wednesday ive ended up with a Runny Hooter.

To answer a few Questions from earlier:

I currently play off 12 at Kilkea Castle Golf club (5miles from athy)its a fairly new coarse but i wouldn't know what base the greens are.

Thanks for the replies.

I think that Brendan is quietly chuckling at some of the serious replies. I did try to "politely" draw him out yesterday but his silence is golden.

Maybe he is another good fisherman, or one established member under another handle. Maybe he carefully cast the bait and sat back waiting for the takers? One or two of the usual know it alls took the bait as did some who genuinely wanted to help.

eh?

I think he is a bit Paranoid :D

Hi,
Where do u play in Ireland Brendan, a lot of the older courses that dont have sand based greens will result in a lot more spin on my course that has sand based greens the ball just hops and stops but when i go to other courses i do get a lot of back spin so u just have to take account of it when you are selecting your club rather that change your swing.
Mike

Hi Mike,

Checked out your coarse, very nice. How do you find the Project X 6.0 shaft in your irons?

Pants - looks like only you and I have the measure of him. Spin back 15 feet with a 9 iron off a handicap of 12 - yeah and I'm a Chinaman !!!

Apparently I'm paranoid, but that's only because they really are after me.

Isn't a Chinaman a left handed googlie in cricket?
