After a lot of bad rounds ,phone calls to the Samaritans and on the verge of giving up this crazy game we love,i had 9 holes tonight with my son. I wasn't going to play for a couple more weeks till i went on holiday but as he'd had his 4 th lesson he wanted to go out for 9 .

Well i was round in 3 over 38 which is pretty good considering i 've played rank rotten and the course is playing bloody tough with The Open qualifying coming soon.
I seemed to find something in my swing tonight that hadn't been there for a long time my wee draw was back and my putting was good.

I played a Bridgestone RX and hit some belting drives with it a bit longer than my normal Z Star and the stop and check on the greens was really pleasing.

The most pleasing thing for me was watching my 10 year old hitting some cracking shots, even if he hit a bad shot he knew right away what he'd done my 2 mates were saying that he sounded like an old man moaning about i should have done this or that great to see, he seems to be too competative at it already .

At the end of the day its just great to be back hitting it decent again ,roll on Ireland in 10 days time. Oh and thanks for all the advice and support guys when i was slashing about like Zorro ,Cheers

Well if we still have the weather that were having now when you come over Steve you'd best pack your shorts and Tee's......Its been above 25 degrees since last wednesday....
Enjoy it anyway and good to see that you didnt give in to the game.

Bugger all to do with the swing pal it's the RX that has swung it for you....Golf's best kept secret is being slowly discovered!

Haha, had been using them for couple of months when i did play Alan and thought they were great, know its sad but did some reading on them, spoke to my cousin in the good old USA and he said to try them, now my ball of choice, the Z Star and the TP Black are now firmly in the garage.

Kid if we get the same weather as last year then its shorts all week it was 32 degrees at night,i was like the laughing tomato when i got home i was burnt to a crisp :)

Glad to see you back and happy mate, I wonder if these balls can help me :D

Bridgestone are making a real noise in the golf ball market, particularly amongst us handicap golfers, I know so many people who have changed in the last few months. I wonder how long it will be before they start getting more tour pros onboard?

I'll give you a week before your being talked down from the Tay Road Bridge!

;) ;)

I liked the RX as well. Its a straight toss up between the Z-STAR and the RX for me.

Only six TP Blacks still to lose, however I'll need to wait until the course softens up, the TP Brick wont stand a chance of stopping on the greens at the moment.

Glad to hear John Travolta is back!

Are these balls really a contender for the Prov1?

What do they cost a dozen?

In my uneducated opinion they really are. They have yet to get a big following on tour but I really think they will. It will be interesting to see how they go against Titleist over the next few years.

They're £30 a dozen.

After all the noise about Bridgestone balls on here the last week or so I think I'm going to give them a try, but...

Should you really choose your ball from the range based on the swing speed that Bridgestone say they suit?

Yes you should. I have played the RX and found it to be superb for stopping, feel and putting. I tried the "S" which is the top of the range jobby and I didn't like it at all, I did not get the same results as I did with the RX and I assume (although I don't know for sure) that it was due to me not having a fast enough swing speed for the S!

I did the online ball fitting thingamajig and it recommended B330, but no way I swing as fast as that says it's optimized for.

I think I fit in the speed for the B330-S (or at least I would've done 9 months ago when I got my clubs) so I'll just get a sleeve of those and see how I get on with them.

I don't understand the idea behind buying a dozen just because they work out cheaper, when you've never used them before. Having 9 of a ball I don't particularly like seems like more of a waste of money than paying a quid extra for only buying a sleeve. :)

I don't think I have the speed for the B330s either but I tried it and love it so I use it. Twice in the last month guys who I play with in comps regularly have commented on how far I am hitting my drives. I'm not stupid long but long enough for people to take notice. Whether that's the ball or the fact I am striking it better with my lessons I don't know but the point is, I'm not losing anything. I love the feel off my irons and before the ground firmed up I was getting stupid amounts of spin.

I haven't had my swing speed measured for about 4 years but back then it was in the high 80s which I think means I should be using the RX or RXS but the S works great for me so I bought 2 dozen for £40 in a direct golf promotion which is great value for a premium ball.

I might try the RXS when I'm due a restock but for now me and the S are happily bringing my handicap down.
