Average Handicap

Hi guys

Just wondered if anybody knows what the average golf handicap would be for the Uk?

Lots....I mean, quite high.
Average proper club h'cap probably less....around 16-17 or so.

I think the average handicap is nearer 18 from a report I read recently although the average GM reader is clearly a superior golfer as they play off 14.3 according to our last reader survey in Nov 2009

I would guess around 15 (for men) also.

Based on the fact that for men in the US, the median handicap is 15 and mode handicap is 14.

Actually, the UK handicap may be slightly higher as US handicaps tend to be slightly lower for players of equivalent abilities, as far as I remember, due to the different systems used.

Can anyone confirm this?

I can't confirm, but I've played with some "unlikely" h'caps, I must say.

I thought the average was around 17. Certainly that has been the number bandied on here when the subject has been debated before. Personally I'm just happy to be (slightly) above average in both the last GM poll and the other consensus

According to a well known golf magazine, that i happened to read, it is 16 for club members.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 60% of men are over 20 h/c with 30% being 10-19 and the final 10% being single figures
