Last year was the first time I properly watched the Masters. What surprised me most was the calibre of players missing the cut. Casey, Donald & McIlroy to name just three. More seasoned viewers than me put it down to experience of playing the course but then I watched Mannassero take it on as a 17yr old amateur and make it. Perhaps he was feeling less pressure.

Anyway the point of the post is what do you think will be the big shocks this year? Who will do surprisingly well and who will perform inexplicably badly? After Houston I can't see who will stop Big Phil but I fancy Anthony Kim to build on last years success. As for missing the cut I have no idea but think some big names may exit. Poulter should blossom in Georgia but he's had such a torrid start to the season...

Don't know about surprises but I fancy one of the younger generation Americans to come through this year. Watney or Fowler maybe. Experience counts at Augusta but so does a bit of nerve, passion and flair. Hmmm thinking about it, in that case I'm tipping Poulter.

I reckon it's shaping up to be a great 4 days.

Phil's dominance last weekend has changed pretty much everything.

I hope it's a European that takes it and I really hope it's Lee's time just so it stops the "he was never worthy of No. 1" brigade.

OP matched my picks in the other thread

Phil and Antony Kim.

Do like Fowler or Watney as a young gun threat.

My oldie thread would be Fred Couples

If Bubba can get his flatstick going then he will definitely be up there come Sunday. Ridiculously long obviously and wont get punished for his occasional wayward shot. Also number 1 in greens in regulation on tour which is so important for Augusta. His putter is so hit and miss though so anything could happen.

Freddie Couples aswell for my long shot. Hes almost as good as he was when on the regular tour and his putting has actually improved HUGE amounts. Knows how to play this course better than anyone which is so important aswell. Not convinced he can win it, but is definitely a great bet for a top ten or an each way finish.

Surprise - maybe if Rick Fowler wins he will get an orange jacket, or perhaps even more surprising get his hair cut.

At the 1986 Masters, Ballesteros, Langer, Sandy Lyle and British amateur champion Garth McGimpsey were the only Europeans in the field. Next week there will be 25, 16 of whom have won in America.

Its wildly open, I fancy Phil, I said it last week too, pity his odds will be lower than a worms bellybutton.
