Im fairly sure this was covered on here before but i cannot find it & i think my rule book is written by a dsylexic swaheli..(or mayb thats just the guy reading it) in stroke play or stableford is it ok to practice putt on a hole you have completed ? i always though no, but i think it was stated on here that you can. came up yesterday during a slow round. Also can you practice on any green you have completed , for example our 11th tee is near the 7th green , 2 groups waiting to play , if there is nobody on the 7th hole can i pass the time practice putting & if you could tell me the rule id apreciate it , thank you

yes you can practise on the hole just completed, but not on 7th green after 10 holes

rule 7.2

A player must not make a practice stroke during play of a hole.
Between the play of two holes a player must not make a practice stroke, except that he may practise putting or chipping on or near:
a. the putting green of the hole last played,
b. any practice putting green, or
c. the teeing ground of the next hole to be played in the round, provided a practice stroke is not made from a hazard and does not unduly delay play (Rule 6-7).
Strokes made in continuing the play of a hole, the result of which has been decided, are not practice strokes.
Exception: When play has been suspended by the Committee, a player may, prior to resumption of play, practise (a) as provided in this Rule, (b) anywhere other than on the competition course and (c) as otherwise permitted by the Committee.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 7-2:
Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.

As I am led to believe you can practise putt once you have finished a hole.

However, if you are playing a 36 hole competition, even with a break after 18, you cannot practise putt after completing a hole on the first 18, as effectively this is practising for the second 18.

If I am wrong I'm sure someone will correct me shortly.

I think you can as it is in between a stipulated round.

You can practice during a 36 holer.
Some bozzo reported me and demanded I was dq'd from the afternoon round of a club champs years ago.
I was on the 14th and missed a 6 footer. As there was no-one behind us, I tapped it in and had another go. He didn't say anything at the time but went straight to see the manager at lunchtime. Manager told him to go read a rule book :)

There's current thread elsewhere about using the rules to your advantage - putting on the green just played is a good example. In a 36 holer, you'd (sort of) be a fool to yourself if you didn't have a few practice putts (subject to not delaying or holding up anyone & that sort of stuff)

Just wondering as i have never played a 36 hole comp the one day , do they change pin positions or tee positions (ie on par 3's) between rounds , or would they have time.. or do you just play the same course again?
