Off on my first ever golf trip this Thursday to Ashbury in Devon, really looking forward to it!!

Anyone played here before? What's it like?

Have been going for years. Value is great but the quality has gone down over the last few years, so much so that after 15 years, we are not going back this year.

Don't let this put you off though, our decision is based on seeing how it has declined in the last 15 years. It still has a lot to offer and you'll have a good time. The golf is OK but don't expect too much from the courses. The Ashbury and Kigbeare are the best courses, Ashbury being the original, Kigbeare the most recent and IMO the best. Don't expect quick rounds though, 5 hours is the norm. There's plenty to do off the course so you should be entertained for the weekend. Make sure you have buggies.

Went once a few years ago and would never darken it's doors again. Very slow rounds on very poor courses, bad accomodation, food was ok though. Plenty to do if weather is bad, only problem is everybody else has the same idea and you can't get on anything. Plus you're up near Dartmoor at this time of year, good luck with the weather. We went in May and it hosed down a couple of days. Sorry to knock it just before you go but you did ask.

The accomodation is basic, not bad, but then they don't claim that it is anything other than basic. Given what you get for what you pay, you can't expect anything else.

We were next to the swimming pool, the room was red hot and stank of chlorine, the place wasn't full and they wouldn't move us. I wasn't expecting the Ritz but I did expect to be able to sleep and not get a banging headache. I even slept in the car one night just to get some sleep.

We went in July '05 but stayed at the manor house complex a few miles away from the golf courses. The food and accomodation was fine considering what we paid. The courses weren't too busy but they are pretty hilly so the buggy was very much appreciated. The condition was ok and I think they've added at least 18 holes since then

Went there twice a year for many years mostly for tennis at the main hotel. As said above there's lots to do (and drink ). As said above the Ashbury and Kingsbere courses are the best ones.
If a bunch of you can't enjoy yourselves there's something wrong.
Post the forum a report when you have been.

Went about a decade ago. Took HID as she had just started playing. She slipped on the indoor bowling alley on day one, tractured her wrist and snapped her ligament. Spent all week driving the buggy one handed. To be fair the staff were great (it was mid-evening and only a few on duty). Aside from that, the courses were ok, too quirky for my liking, but as a destination for a big group it has merits

On my way to the place now. Few mixed reviews about it on here but ill make my own mind up. Ill write a review after this weekend once I've warned my fingers up!!!
