Hi all,
Just wondering has anyone bought an Artificial putting green for their back garden and if so, was it any good and how much did it cost? We are about to have our garden sorted out at home and i happened to mention to H.I.D. that it may be a good idea as i wont spend half as much time at the golf club if we had one (YEAH RIGHT :)

had a look round carpet world and bought a 4m x 1m length of carpet for £18.Cheapest one in the shop.
Obviously have to use it indoors if its raining but perfect for practise and just roll it up and put out of the way when not being used.

If I had that sort of money spare then yes I would have one constructed, cant see how you could class it as a "gimmick" though. If your serious about your golf then it can only be helpful. The amount of times I find mysel putting on the carpet, even out of boredom would justify having a purpose built practice facility in the garden and as the OP stated it could cut down the time away from the family and allow me more time with the kids.

Win win situation in my eyes.

I agree with you. The fact that many pros have them at their houses as well to act as an onsite practice facility must give some weight to the argument of them being worthwhile. If they weren't so expensive I would have one in an instant.

This is what you want to have a look at. I know Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood and Nick Dougherty have one of these...and more I'm sure more do as well, these are just off the top of my head.

If you are relatively handy and capable you can construct them utilising artificial turf you can buy over the internet. Call for free samples from suppliers and choose the putting surface you most prefer. There are some good ones available easily.

I did it for a couple of customers. One simply laid over a area of decking and another constructed on scalpings & sharp sand allowing for contours and laid within an existing lawn.

If you want any info or I can be of any further help mail me.
