If it is gout you need to stick to a very low purine diet. Google for a list of high purine foods/drinks. Going sober for a couple of weeks isn't a bad idea either.
Given that you're a regular golfer, I'd be surprised if your problem wasn't caused by arthritis or some kind of injury, in which case treatment for gout is a waste of time.
