In bed early hours of Monday morning I felt a slight pain/twinge on the inner side of my left knee, by Monday afternoon it was really painful and i could hardly walk. No golf
Wednesday morning a very young female Doc reckons it's an arthritis flare up and prescribed 10mg Amitriptyline tabs and Solpadol.

26 hours later and it's still agony, even when sitting. :(

I looked online and i reckon it could be Gout, any of you guys experienced anything like this.

Got diagnosed with gout a month or so back. And yes it's up into both knees. I thought it was arthritis until they did a blood test for it. It's not looking good around my big toe, with the skin very flaky and pins and needles too.

What medication did you get Brian and did they change your diet ? and is it working ?.

Don't know if this applies to you, Billy, but my wife had gout in her toe for about 2 months. This came after a course of quite strong antibiotics. We asked the GP if the antibiotics had anything to do with it, she said no. Eventually we saw a specialist, by which time it had got a lot better. Mentioned the antibiotics to him & he said that was almost certain to have caused it. As I understand it, there's medication that prevents gout attacks but you can't take it while you have an attack because it makes it worse.

Not the result of too many drams after your hole in one, I hope?

You could be right about the extra drams Bill, celebrating my hole in one also Saturday was our invitation day with a bar and barbecue out on the course.
Then we had the Scotland v England game later, so i probably did have a few more than normal.
Food for thought , drink use to go to my head, now it's my knee, well done doctor Bill

Strong painkillers, ibuprofen based. And drop all the fatty foods.... the second bit is proving difficult.

According to the leaflet my prescribed tablets are mainly for treating depression and bed wetting in children over 6.
The pain killing bit is just a side effect

The amytrip is used in small doses as a muscle relaxant. Don't worry about it in the slightest - no alcohol with it though. Last time I did that I slept for 14 hours straight... scared the bejesus out of Mrs Hobbit

I've had gout in my big toe a couple of times and my doctor gave me some tiny little tablets that afaik ate supposed to break up the crystals of uric acid causing the problem. Arthritis is quite a different pain in my opinion as ive suffered with both

Solpadol are a straight forward pain killer. Amitriptyline are for nerve pain - and perhaps to help you sleep. Although they are officially an antidepressant they are virtually never used for that today as there are better treatments for depression.

If you think it might be gout you'll need a blood test to confirm, in the meantime get some rest, compress and elevate it, get some ice on it when it's throbbing.

I do have an appointment for blood tests next week, i have been resting, taking pain killers etc and applying ice packs.

Good news, the pain has almost gone and i can walk without dragging my leg like Chester from Gunsmoke.
