Army Pay in Scotland Shocker

...
I think those impacted would be those whose unit is permantly based in Scotland and those who live off base.

Agreed! That's what I meant by the highlighted 'Scottish'.

Probably also why the picture heading the article featured kilts!

It's nice to reflect that Doon can still get his foot in his mouth at his age though!

Er..... Try reading the 1st paragraph after the picture of Gavin Williamson! Shock Horror! Doon was correct and the naysayers are wrong/blind!

I also (strongly) believe that it's Scottish military personnel (those permanently living in Scotland as opposed those temporarily based there) who the article is talking about!

And, as there's no mention of taking more from the 'lower' ranks, I don't believe there will be any clawback from them! So, to restore normality,.... Doon's claim that 'The UK army will now take additional money from the poorest paid soldiers to help officers earning over £33k' is almost certainly twaddle!

DofD is merely allowing Scottish squaddies the reduced tax in Scotland and 'compensating' those affected by any increased tax. This is probably a pretty similar to what other organisations would be considering!
You strongly believe wrong, it is all BRITISH Military personnel based in Scotland that come under SIRT.

A single English Soldier based in Scotland is a resident for tax reasons, as is a married guy in quarters.

Were in the article does it differentiate between nationalities?

I sit (almost) corrected!

However, it's RESIDENT (for Tax purposes) in Scotland, not merely BASED there! Though 'based' does have a special meaning for military! Unlike my 3-4 year period in Scotland, where I was based, during the week and many golfing weekends, in Edinburgh, but my 'main home' was in Surrey!

Btw. Does the notice '(Not to be communicated to anyone outside HM Service without authority)' in that article still apply?!

The DIN (Found on Google from gov.uk link) has some worked examples as to whether a person is subject to SIRT, the strange one is the Serviceman doing 5 months in Scotland, 3 months in NI and 4 months in England, for that tax year he’d be subject to SIRT.
