After playing my first round I realised that I'm not good enough to get the most out of a laser rangefinder. However, I like the flexibility afforded by the laser to pinpoint specific points rather than relying solely on predefinef points. I also have budget constraint meaning annual subs on top of a unit is not a good option.

The Shotmiser looks like a good compromise, especially as I will probably only want 1 or 2 courses in year one. I'm just wondering if anyone has one and can let me know if there are any major differences between the G300 or G500.

I've got a G300 that you can have really cheap if you decide you want one.

It's good but I prefer the instant distances on my sc rather than tapping the screen to find out. Maybe that's changed now with the software updates.

Biggest bugbear for me with it is that the battery only lasted the whole round if I kept putting it into standby when I wasn't using it.

Looks like they've changed that with the G500 as that instantly tells you distance to front middle and back of green so you only need to use touch screen for specific obstacles.

Concerned about the battery life though. Would be useful to know if anyone else had that problem.

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well.

It shows front middle and back all the time, but if you want to know how far to a ditch or bunker you tap the screen where you want the distance to and it tells you. Better in a way because you can get the distance to anything, but I just prefer having the distances to specific things on my SC.

Ok thanks for clarifying. But I'm still well confused about which I'd prefer.

The best thing would be to be able to play a round with each (Skycaddie and Shotmiser) and then make my mind up but that's not possible. Well I won't be making a purchase until end of April/May so plenty of time for my mind to be changed again, and again, and again...

If I did go down the SkyC route it'd have to be the 2.5 as that + a couple of years subscription would at least equate to the Shotmiser.

Any wealthy benefactors out there that would like to support the Project you know where to find me... :D

Thanks for the offer, really kind of you. Unfortunately I cant make the upcoming meets. Actually really gutted I'm missing out on putting faces to names. Judging by lack of responses you're the only one who seems to have a Shotmiser...

I'm waiting to try a G500 at a course near me when they get delivery. I also wanted to question the battery life for events that lasted all day. I will let you know what I find out once I have tested it. I don't know when it will be though.

Got the G300 and the only real difference is the G500 is waterproof. The software looks the same to me, but then again it might be just me.

The G300 is good, I don't like the DMD's that you can not touch screen to get lay up yards and the likes or for that matter have to pay heavy subs to each year.

Thanks Parmo, That's reassuring, as an iPhone fan I think I should be able to use it fairly intuitively and like the concept of being able to select my own lay up points etc.

Bigfoot if you could let me know how you get on that would be great. At the moment the Shotmiser is winning with the only concerning feature being the battery life so if that's not a problem I'm getting one!
