I'm looking to pay for one of my mates to play at the Belfry as a suprise for his 30th - looking at their website you have the option of 3 different courses - the Brabazon Course for £100, the PGA National Course for £60 and the Derby Course for £30. The Brabazon is out of my price range so that leaves either the PGA National or the Derby. Of those of you that have played these courses would you say that the PGA National is worth the extra money?

Or, can you recommend any other course in the Yorkshire/Midland area that you think is better for the money? Cheers.

Yep
Played the PGA for £35 each on a 2-4-1 deal. Very nice, but we both reckon its not worth the full price. Greens were slick, fairways tight, bunkers huge and plentiful but a good shot was rewarded. Just watch out for the pin placement on 17.....

Can't see the Brabazon being worth over £100 - and they're doing renovation work at the moment - they had diggers in front of the 18th green.

The Derby's ok but the PGA is better value on the 2-4-1 rate.

Brabazon is really mediocre. The price they charge for it is extortionate and is purely driven by some Ryder cup history and the fact that everyone knows the 10th and 18th.

If you are looking in that part of the country then surely you could take in Woodhall Spa.

Personally, I didnt like the Brabazon, found it much too artificial.

Would much rather play somewhere like Ganton (Scarborough), Fulford(York),
or even Woodhall Spa.

Cant comment on the other 2 tho.

Agree with ChrisMc,,,,, get to Ganton, great great course, unbelieveably quiet when we played and always in fantastic condition.

I have vague memories of trying to play there on holiday about 25-30 years ago with my Dad.

There had just been a competition on there and the galleries hadn't been taken down yet, it looked fantastic.

We couldn't get on there so played a course called Malton & Norton, which I seem to remember was quite hilly!
