Hi - have just moved into the Chepstow area and looking for a round and any advice on clubs worth joining in the area.

Hello mate, welcome to the forum.

As Rob said above, all those courses are very close.

I play at Thornbury GC which is just across the Severn Road Bridge, about 15 minutes from Chepstow, see here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

For the money, it's one of the best courses in the area and if you're under 30, a full, 7 day membership is less than £400 a year.

I'm not a member yet, but will be joining at the start of their membership year in April, so if you fancy joining or want a round there to check it out, give me a shout.

Cheers

Aztecs, Thornbury thats the one i couldnt think of,just over the old severn bridge, lovely course...

Yea, it really is. A mate of mine used to be a green keeper there, and I finally went for a round late last year. I was dubious because it's part of the "Burhill" chain of golf clubs and I wasn't sure what to expect, but for a fairly new (opened in 1992), public, pay-and-play golf course, the layout is fantastic, the holes are all interesting and the quality of the course (greens especially) is second to none.

I also like the fact they have an 18 hole par 3 course with a good mixture of short and long par 3s.

Thanks Aztec,

Have heard good reviews of Thornbury and would be great to meet up for a round.

An important aspect for me is the clubhouse social scene and the amount of roll up game opportunities as being new to the area getting to know people is the hardest bit.

Cheers

Not sure on the roll up situation to be honest, but I'd be as interested as you as I'm still relatively new to the area. The clubhouse always seems to be buzzing whenever I'm there at the weekend though.

As of Mid-Feb, I'm free for a round most Saturday's, so give me a shout and we'll get something organised. It's relatively short (6000yards from the yellows), but still pretty challenging IMO.
