Anyone here remotely thinking about going to Brazil for the world cup?

Some of the cost will not be required, see above in red... :D

Indeed! In 1988 we came home with quarters, semis and final tickets. Some suggested we head to Munich to tout the final tickets but having run the gauntlet of German fans on more than one evening I'd had enough and was keen to get home.

Never again!

Went to Germany in 2006. A brilliant experience.
We stayed in Forbach just over the border in France and saved a fortune, of course border hoping isn't really an option in Brazil.:(
If you can afford it GO. I wish i could. :(
As me gran used to say you can't take it with you. ;)

Yeh, don't think could border hop, but its def a once in a lifetime thing and especially in Brazil.

Id only plan on going for 3 weeks either way, and wouldnt just be focussed on going to the England games.

I'd rather sand paper my old chap that pay to watch the England football team play anywhere.

Brazil looks good though. I would love to go. But it would not be at a time when some of the worst of England head there en masse. And I speak from experience having once watched England in Athens as a guest of the FA. It was absolutely hideous.

I have been to the last 3 world cups and all have been amazing, purely from a holiday perspective. To see new places and cultures creates memories you can't put a price tag on. Each to their own though

The one thing I would say from a personal point of view is that i wouldnt be rushing to follow England because the number of fans makes tickets and accom. way more expensive, not to mention that generally you don't also see as many goals

My advice would be to not get a package, get your flights and hotel booked up in advance, perhaps get 1 ticket before you go out there and the rest just buy outside the stadiums, always cheaper and can be quite fun. Be warned that you won't get any tickets for England games outside the stadium

Go watch games with teams that have good atmosphere, even if its nil nil you still have fun. E.g, Brazil (must see), Argentina, Cameroon, Spain, Netherlands, Mexico ...all those teams usually have a carnival atmosphere. The group stages are also better, tickets are cheaper and you are guaranteed to watch the teams you want to, I also find that there are more goals and its more fun to watch an unmatched contest, I would much rather watch brazil annihilate Japan 4-0, than Sweden and France grind out a 1-1

Finally, I plan to go to a game every 4 days, need a break in between and in those days you watch games at beachside cafes with locals drinking local beer, etc...

Just my views, I know they aren't for everyone, I grew up abroad so I have a slightly different perspective which I thought I would share as it might give people a few different ideas.

Finally....going to the World Cup in brazil is like going to play the old course, it's something a football fan should do if they can

See you there

Went to Rio once about twenty years ago on a freebie. Glad I never paid out of my own money. The muggers must be rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the world cup starting. The famous beaches weren't even that good.
