Been out for 18 holes this morning after not touching a club in over three weeks. Boy that was interesting. Hit a few balls in the net to loosen up as I wanted to duck out before the seniors got on the tee at 7.45. First shot was a horrid 70 yard snap hook.

Struggled off the tee most of the way round and timing was off with everything for the first few holes. The irons settled down and I putted ok. The course was pretty wet in places and the greens were very soft. If I was honest I think they could/should have left them on temps until the weekend to protect them a bit as there are a lot of guys clearly not working this week and the course is busy.

I think I'll go to the practice ground tomorrow and try and sort the timing and driving issues out but it's great to be out and playing

Yes, one fairway hit out of 13 sums it up for me. Not just missing either. and both sides. :(

Plenty of banter though, my partner played well, and it was just good to get out.

I'm missing both sides too although mostly right which is annoying as I tend to hook left usually both on the course and the range. Not getting stressed though and putting it down to one of those things. Plan B looks like an early morning round tomorrow with a couple of members, bit of lunch before the kitchen stops to prepare for the New Years Eve party and then back out onto the practice ground in the afternoon

My swing was so off that after the round i ached in places i didn't know i had. For a young buck like me that's not good. :(

Homer do you ever go out and just enjoy a round instead of disecting every negative part of it???

Think yourself lucky than you have sight of any grass !!! My course is still covered in snow ! Slight thaw going on at present, so signs of grass under trees etc, but after 15-18" of snow - its very wet, and I doubt the course will open for a couple of weeks at least.

I never usually play much over winter anyways, and yes, the timing always goes to pot, but a few sessions soon seems to bring things back.

Hopefully.

Played 18 today for the first time in weeks, though I have been on the range a bit recently. All winter tees and greens.

Played pretty well and scored 22 points out but let things slip a bit coming back, especially with an 8 on a par five when I'd got to under 100 yards in two....
15 points back for 37. Managed to concentrate on swinging within myself, which certainly helped on the muddy course, and chipped like a demon.

Which bit of my last sentence in the OP "its great to be out and playing" are you struggling with or was it the "not getting too stressed and putting it down to one of those things" that threw you.

Going to go out for a knockabout with some mates in the morning and off to hit balls in the afternoon to try and get some timing back. If it goes well in the morning then a hearty lunch and a kip on the settee before tomorrow nights celebrations. Even if it goes well on the practice ground if I go out there, there is always something (pitching, bunkers etc) that can be better.

Ive just come back from the DR,must have hit 150 balls, its
like Iv'e never played before..o.k. its been 4-5 weeks since
Iv'e used any kind of club, but to play as I have is crap..
Seen all these guys looking foreward to playing in a comp
today,if it had have been me,it would have been a total waste of time..

last played 2 weeks ago and was ok then. might get out on friday for a few if the snows gone. still a bit about around inverness. not sure if its gone at Nairn or Tain yet.

played my first 18 in weeks today 4 of us i asked to be scored of next years new handicap which is 10 not this years of 12 i played in my eyes not like i had been befors the snow but still ended up with 33 points 4 1 pointers and 2 blobs so reasonbly happy for a first attempt

Played six holes today after a ten day break. I have been doing various drills from several golf mags to keep me mobile and that seemed to do the trick together with my new compression gear which is keeping the Xmas flab under control.
Hit a really good drive down the middle of the fairway on the par 4 first. Managed to hit my pitch to the green very thin as I was a bit nervous about the swamp I was standing on but everything was OK after that. Given the condition of the course I don't see the point in taking things too seriously. As long as I make good contact with the ball that is good enough for me at the moment.

No mate have been at the range numerous times lately and am hitting it sweet :)

Very similar to Steve....
Been to the range to break in my new 3 wood and my rescue and i played yesterday on a pretty tough course where the J.P. MacManus invitational is played in Adare a few miles from me....I had 31 points yesterday with 4 one pointers and 2 blobs..

I played my own course today and had 37 points with similar 1's and 2 Blobs....
I wouldnt say that im hitting it sweet...I had my fair share of gammy ones but since i changed my putter i cant seem to miss a hole with it....I was pinging em in from everywhere :o

Strangely had the opposite experience today, not been playing and had a friendly 4 ball and hit it far better than could have been expected, a couple of 2s on the par 3s and bar a couple of badly blocked drivers didnt do too much wrong. No doubt that'll be long gone by the time I play next lol
