Got my official handicap this year as I really fancy playing in some Open competitions. The chance to play some different courses at an advantageous rate, and a little bit of added "pressure" too.
Hever Castle GC have a Mens Open scheduled for SUNDAY 2nd MAY on their "Championship" course. Have played there a couple of times and it's quite a decent track with some really good holes.
Hever is situated near Edenbridge in Kent, with fairly easy access from the M25/M23.

Details of the course can be found here...

Maximum handicap is 24 and it must be an "official" club one. At the moment the entry fee has not been posted, although I wouldn't have thought it's going to be much more than about £25.00 or so.
Anybody else fancy coming along to make up a fourball????
I will let you have more details as and when I get them.
Rob

I would be up for that. Can't remember if I have played there before, but think I might have done.

Nice one Chris. I'm sure James would come along too, I have PM'd him about it.
Can you PM me your full name, home club, age and official handicap and I will print out an entry form and send it off mate.
Rob

Oh! And your full address and home telephone number

Oh! And your full address and home telephone number,
favourite colour, age, make of electric trolley, boxers or y-fronts and which tanning product you prefer.
:)

Might be worth a check Smiffy....Some clubs won't let 4 mates out together in their opens. You might get split into 2 two's and grouped with another pair.

Appreciate what you are saying and this thought had crossed my mind, for obvious reasons... :D
Don't know what Hevers stance on this would be, I will put a covering letter in with our entry forms to ask the question. If we are split up it's not the end of the world. I can ask for teeing off times that are fairly close so at least we get to have a bit of banter together before and after I guess.

Well, we've got a fourball (if they let us play together that is)....
Me, Murphthemog, JustOneUK and Leftie.
But even though we might not be able to play together it should be a laugh.
Would be really good if a forum member actually finished in the prizes.
If anybody else is interested in joining us, let me know and I can point you in the right direction for an entry form
Rob

Smiffy, point me in the right direction if you please, could get a 4ball together also, Hever is a nice track.

:)

Firstly, you need to go onto the main EGU (English Golf Union) website. Link here...

Can't remember if you have to register or not (don't worry if you do, it's free!!) but you should get a map come up on the right hand side of the page which divides the country into regions. Click on "South East" and this should bring up a smaller map of the particular area with a drop down box on the left hand side under the "map search" heading.
Click on the drop down box so that "Open Competitions" shows, which should then produce another drop down box giving you the choice of "all, gents, ladies, juniors, mixed or seniors". Highlight "gents" and then if you go back to the map and click in a particular area it will find all of the opens that have been posted thus far for that particular region. If you click on somewhere around the "Maidstone" area it will give you a list of about 8 or 9 and clicking on the Hever Gents open will allow you to complete and print an entry form.
I have completed and printed off four for "our" group and have also enclosed a covering letter with them asking if it is possible for the four of us to play together. But as I say, it's not the end of the world if we can't.
Hope that helps, if you have any more questions please ask
Rob

The only thing I would say is that on the entry form it says "please enclose cheque for £0.00"
I doubt very much if entry is free!! Be great if it was, but I would expect the cost to be around £25.00 or so. One of the good things about playing Opens is that you get the chance to play a decent course for less than the normal green fee and there is usually a buffet or meal or something laid on.
In my letter I have also asked for them to let me know the cost of entry as soon as they have set it. Once I know, I'll let you know

Jahmoo
just to let you know that I have heard back from Hever, cost of the day is £42.00 which includes coffee & bacon roll, 18 holes (Stableford 3/4's hc) and a two course meal afterwards.
I have sent the entry forms off for our fourball (which they confirm they have received) but as thought we won't be able to play together. Completely understand this of course, but the organiser did say that he would try to get our teeing off times as close together as he could.
Have you thought any more about getting a foursome up?
Rob
